The wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a newspaper that she was ejected during the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom."
Beverly Young told the St. Petersburg Times that she was sitting in the front row of the House gallery Tuesday night when she was approached by someone who told her she needed to leave.
She said she reluctantly agreed, but argued with several officers in an outside hallway.
In a telephone interview with the newspaper, Young said she told them her shirt wasn't a protest but a message of support.
Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said Young wasn't ejected from the gallery and she left on her own. She couldn't provide additional details.
Young's husband found out about the incident after Bush's speech and called it unacceptable.
She was probably thrown out because they felt they had to be even handed, throwing Sheehan out. Either that or the guys who were told to throw out Sheehan were lefties, and they wanted to voice their opinion by throwing out "one of theirs" in retaliation.
The actions of Bill Young's wife does not speak well for him. That was in very bad taste.
Just as long as she doesn't try to become a free-speech martyr, like Cindy Sheehan.
Looks like Miss Manners needs to write a piece saying that a T shirt with anything on it is not appropriate to a State of the Union.
Why would anyone wear a T shirt to something this formal and somber is beyond me. Would this woman wear a T shirt to a black tie dinner?
I support the troops I don't support Cindy Sheehan, but crimony folks, stop wearing T shirts as bill boards. Let's have some decorum here. These are the same halls folks like Daniel Webster orated from.
"Smith and Wollensky"
Don't they make firearms?
Anyway, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. You don't get to advocate ANY cause while you are in the gallery. It's a simple rule. Applies to all -- good!
She was tossed because rules are rules. Even the tourists are warned about it when visiting the galleries.
Just goes to show that the law was being applied in a content-neutral manner.
Precisely
Any form of protesting inside is a misdemeanor. It's bad enough the democrats get away with their behavior on the floor, but can you imagine the circus it would be if anyone was allowed in with their pet cause banners and signs?
If you knew Cindy was going to show up, and likely cause a scene, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have somebody show up with a pro-president statement with the intention of being removed also.It would go a long way to diffuse any charges of inconsistency.
Beverly Young may just be taking one for the home team here.
She was on one side and Cindy was on the other and BOTH were rightly ejected.
She and Cindy should have LEFT their CHEST bumper stickers outside where they belonged.
This reminded me of an episode of the Sopranos where Tony saw some guy in a nice restaurant wearing a baseball cap and blue jeans. He went over to the guy and his date and told him that they've removed the sports bleachers and he needed to remove the hat. After being stared down, the guy took off his hat. It just wasn't appropriate attire for a nice restaurant. Funny scene.
I wouldn't know. I'm a Burger King myself. (Except when I go to Texas, I like Whataburger there)
Well, if the moonbat broke the rules with an anti-war T-shirt, then the same rules should apply for pro-war. No messages, either pro or con in the SOTU. Sounds fair to me.
White Castle, baby. White Castle.
It was a Karl Rove plot to provide cover to have Cindy Sheehan arrested!
It's embarrassing. Our Congress is full of low class, no class, embarrassing fools who bring shame to the institution. Let's hope this guy's constituents rid themselves of him.. and his wife.. come November.
Puhlease.......hillary in a dress. NO! PIAPS needs to wear a pantsuit to protect our eyes.
Long been the victims of oppression, newly emancipated women are still not getting the message.
They seem to forget that along with equality comes responsibility and respect. IF you want to be appreciated and have your message heard.
Some women's frantic antics embarrass me greatly. There is nothing more "arrived" than a knowledgeable female engaged in oppositional debate and yet retaining the decorum women do so well.
The PMS hysterics can stop now - they are taking women's rights back to the dark ages.
Oops. I meant Burger King man. I am not a Burger King.
