ABC NOW FEARING A MASS TUNEOUT (The Brokeback Oscars Effect)
NY Post ^ | 2/1/06 | DON KAPLAN

"Brokeback Mountain" and a slew of other arty, less-widely seen Oscar-nominated flicks are expected to take the polish off ABC's ratings for the Academy Awards this year.

With no big-budget films like "Titanic," "Gladiator" or "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" in this season's crop of nominees, ABC may be staring down the barrel of one of the lowest-rated Oscar telecasts in recent memory when it airs on March 5, say TV-industry analysts.

Well, thanks. Roger Ebert didn't tell me any of that stuff. It was an interesting review. All the women in my family, daughter, daughter-in-law, niece (and me) want to see it...none of the men would go near it. Kinda weird.

What are you talking about? Clift had a heart attack. AIDS was unknown in 1966. (If you're talking about Rock Hudson, his movies are on all the time!) I'm sorry you weren't aware of this; does it really ruin his movies for you? Here are some links: (by the way, I didn't know his sister in law is Eleanor Clift!)

You've really somehow never heard this before, have you? It seems to bother you; what difference could it possibly make?

Part of Hollyweird's suicide pact is that a movie must have been a box office nobody to be nominated.

They reap what they sew.

I haven't watched one of these Hollywood self induced love feast in years and will probably never as long as I live.

Bob Hope never won an Oscar, but was a giant in comedy and selflessness in going overseas and entertaining our troops year in and year out! When the entertainment industry failed to honor this man, I realized they were beyond their own pathetic world. Maybe Fox will show the Passion of the Christ!

I wrote an letter to the Editor of the Seattle Times on just that, Back when Michael Moore was spouting off at the awards. My letter made letter of the week. It was about how many of the Stars and entertainers of the 1940's put careers on hold to serve the war effort in one capacity or another. Some loosing their lives doing do, like Glenn Miller and Carole Lombard.

I was saddened that the passing of Bob Hope went almost unnoticed. A small tribute on the evening news was about all he got.

Montgomery Clift's movies are not shown anymore? Is that what you're saying?

TCM must run Judgment at Nuremberg at least three times a year. I suspect From Here to Eternity and Red River are run at least as often.

"Tom Hanks' Oscar for Philadelphia " Yeah. Well, Hanks is always good. I thought Denzel Washington was the best actor in the film.

I totally agree. I lived two blocks from the site where they filmed it, and went up there to get autographs. Still thought the message of the movie was completely unrealistic gay propaganda, especially the scene where he is happily ensconsed in his family of origin with his gay lover and a big fat case of AIDS, holding his weeks-old infant nephew. Give me a break. When one of my employees had AIDS, not even the doctors and nurses would get near him.

of course it ruins the movies.

Same as barbara streisands rantings have ruined he old movies. Same as George Clooney does not get my box office dollar.

Why would I want to see anything that supports the left.

There is way too much competition for my entertainment time and money for me to waste my time.

Even the references you cite do not give afirmative evidence, if anything the reference to "developed a more sensible life" following his post car accident drinking would tie into the reference to the "guilt" reference in the article.

As for the wikepedia. That is way too discredited to be taken seriously on ANY subject.

hudsons movies are gone. Then again clift died in the 60's. Hudson died horribly and in public after being forced to admit everything.

I believe that what we have been witnessing is a desperate attempt among homosexuals, especially gay males, to get their lifestyles (and themselves) to be accepted. It's a pressing psychological need, I think.

There's a giant push for gay marriage. Spain legalizes it in full and the number of such couples is miniscule.

This push for acceptance will never stop, even if acceptance is achieved, not just legally but socially, because of the psychoses involved.

Of course decent people aren't going to tune into the Oscars to watch gay propaganda. Send a message to Hollyweird and tune out.

I haven't watched any of that garbage since the 1996 election when I found out they were all lying to us . Only a redskins game if it happens to be on those channels .

I don't give a hoot about the politics of an actor. I know, I'm alone in this, but I simply don't see the point. There was a time in this country -- not that very long ago -- when folks folks didn't judge an actor by his/her politics.

we need to find neilson families to have them tune out.

If anyone with a tivo, set it to record ANYTHING other than the oscars on that night. It will make the oscars have low viewership by comparison. (such information is collected for viewership) DON"T TIVO THE OSCARS!

That was the time when the actors and actresses did not force their politics upon the public at large.

Now they seek to be extensions of the DNC and advocates for Marxism and Socialism.

How about an award to compete against the Oscars aired at the same time?

Good idea. We could call the show: Awards for Movies that Don't Give the Finger to America. What do you think?
