(CBS) BELLWOOD A UPS driver was savagely beaten by middle school students while delivering packages in the western suburbs.
The attack happened in Bellwood along the 3200 block of St. Charles.
In a CBS 2 excusive, Joanie Lum talked to the man who was savagely beaten just trying to do his job.
UPS driver Thomas Murphy says he was beaten by a group of school kids on busy St. Charles Road in Bellwood, the route he has driven for 12 years.
He says a teenager walked out in front of his delivery truck Friday at about 3 p.m. When he stopped the truck, 15 to 20 youths surrounded him.
"Somebody clocked me with a pipe. I took kicks from my right. My eyes caked over. I tried to get up and defend myself as best I could," Murphy said.
He was beaten from his head to his ankles.
Thomas murphy: "I remember being down on one knee, falling to the ground with kids on top of me," Murphy said.
He thinks a passing motorist called for help.
The Bellwood police believe the attackers came from Roosevelt Middle School, located a couple of blocks away. They have stepped up patrols in the area.

He loves the area and has run that route for something like 20 yrs. He never thought something like this would happen. Everyone knew him, he felt safe.
Sure is. Read my last post
This area isn't exactly the get involved in school type. They make more money on the streets in 2 hours than they would working 8 hr days. They grow up seeing deals right in front of their house--they know no other way.
In VA (for State law)you are either in a city OR a county and jury pools are called from one or the other.
Today in Petersburg, a 17 year old black male was released by an inner city jury for killing a 70 year old Korean store owner.
If there was evidence to try him on the Federal Exile program for gun charges, the jury would be chosen from a District area and the jury makeup would be different (but you can be sure there would be NO Koreans on it).
"I got jumped by 8 black guys one night ..............
"but I was unreasonably suspicious for a while".
Sometimes it's a fine line between paranoia and perception!
15-20 sets of parents in this neighborhood likely means...15-20 parents total. And I doubt they feel much shame.
The parents are probably pissed at the UPS guy. He is the racist after all.
These savages are our future leaders. They're raised to value their own lives cheaply and live like animals. Their role models are gangster criminals and hollywood whores.
We baby boomers are in real trouble. It's not gonna get better.
