On a 72-25 vote, senators succeeded in passing the 60-vote threshold to prevent a filibuster and allow a simple majority vote Tuesday. At least 57 senators have said publicly they will vote for the nominee.

Alito Filibuster Fails, Final Confirmation Vote Expected Tomorrow
How sweet it is!!!!!
Now, look ahead: Stevens and Ginsburg may not outlast W. Who's the next nominee?
I heard something about some sort of 3-day rule between a cloture vote and a final vote. Can someone shed some light on this?
NEXT!
In the spirit of compassionate humanity....
I suggest a suicide watch be placed on the assholes at DU, the Kennedy Compound and the Kerry Kitchen...

I like to see the filibuster broken with force. This should send a message to the DUmmies that their tactics are beyond flawed.
Luttig and Brown.
Good news!
Kerry made a token "effort" to appease his base. Now he can go back to worrying about his other "base": how many inches of snow on the slopes of Gstaad!
I'm here for the gloat-fest. Is this the right thread?
bellisimo
I hope the Republicans have learned a lesson. You don't need a stealth candidate with no paper trail go get onto the Supreme Court. An originalist with a 15 year paper trail who didn't evade questions during his confirmation hearing (Judge Alito was much more willing than Justice Roberts was to actually discuss his philosophy) will be confirmed to the Court tomorrow. And I'm willing to bet that his jurisprudence will be more consistent even than Scalia's since it is even more strongly based in a judicial philosophy.
Dems here are also nasty bunch of Rats:
