Whats the best AK-47

Posted on 01/30/2006 2:33:25 PM PST by Jimma

I am going to purchase an AK-47. I was wondering who makes the best one? I am also curious as to what to look for as far as wear and tear.

?

These are illegal weapons in most climates.

But try your nearest North Korean/Chinese/Cuban/African/Somalian/PLO/Hamas dealer - they are fully stocked.

Soviets haven't changed this weapon since the early 50's........... It's of true historic interest, but you'll get the ATF interested, even if you find one on the black market.

I hear there are some little shops in Karachi that have a pretty good selection. Ask for Muhammed.

You'll get some serious answers. I know quite a few guys who use AK's at my range and they enjoy them. Cheap ammo and reliable.

Personal opinion only,

AKs fall into the category of "spray and pray".... but seriously. What do you want the AK for? If it is to be a wall hanger, then any AK will do. If it is for precision long range shooting, well then I'm not sure I'd recommend any AK.

You can't purchase a selective-fire AK47 or AKM. You can purchase a semiautomatic version manufactured abroad for the US market. I would imagine that a Finnish rifle made by Valmet would be among the better versions. I have also heard the Romanian rifles are shoddy. For a semi-auto chambered for the .30 Russian short I would rather have a nice Russian-built SKS carbine. I used to have one in cherry condition with a finely milled receiver. Sorry I let that one go.

Well...I already have a ruger mini-30 (7.62x39). I am getting a second primary weapon (one for me one for my wife) and want to use common ammo.

I have an Arsenal AK in 5.45 that I'll put up against any AR carbine made. Flawless function and 1 1/2 to 2 minute accuracy. Stay away from the cheap Romanian AKs that are everywhere these days. Whoever is converting these rifles from single stack to double is using a tape measure to set up their equipment.
