Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude."

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "But how did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "You don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You've made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect ME to solve your problem. You're in EXACTLY the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now, it's MY fault.

CNN just announced that the gang of 14 will meet one hour before the vote. He speculated that they will agree that this is not severe enough to filibuster and will end it

Why .. to look important or something?

Re your #67:

"I keep hearing John Kerrys name being braught up in 08....
Am I missing something, he was the worste candidate EVER!~!!!!! Liar, proven military cheat..."

Yup.

But if the GOP insists on running some gutless, flip-flopping, Constitution gutting two-faced RINO like "War Hero" (the other one) McCain - according to their conventional wisdom from Ed Gillespie et. al that "Conservatives can never win" (Guess he never heard of Ronaldus Magnus, then did he?) then there is a good chance that we could have a Klintoon redeaux.

Like we got when they ran Nice ol' Sen. Dole against "Slick Willie".
No contest was it, really?

"Who are they (Conservatives) going to vote for? A Democrat?! I don't think so!" reportedly laughed Gillespe, when someone inquired as to how the GOP "Conservative Base" might react.

Apparantly he never heard of Ross Perot, either.

*Duh!*

Thank you, inept GOP "leadership", for 8 years of the Klintoon Syndicate, and the attrocities associated therewith. Way t'go, champs!

GWB won not so much as a "Conservative" candidate - but that the Dems were stupid enough to put up an absurd caracature of a canidate like Gore, and then Hanoi Kerry after that.

The contrast was overwhelming!

But if the Dems had been smart enough to put up a "moderate" like Joe Lieberman instead of those flaming fruitcakes, I strongly opine that we'd have a Democrat in the WH now, as well as a probable D majority in Congress.

And in '08, if they smarten up enough to run a reasonably credible candidate, and the Pubbies are dumb enough to run a milquetoast RINO like Chaffee or McCain...

Shame on us!

I'm sorry if I'm rehashing this. Do the democrats have enough votes to force a filibuster and do the conservatives have enough votes for the consititutional option?
I hope they do filibuster Alito, for I believe it will mean their political demise

I wish Ted Nugent would run for Senate.

Now THAT would be a sight to see! Nugent would slap a freshly-killed side of venison onto the podium during his speech!

The dims are absolutely making fools of themselves.

This is a serious question. Where are the grownups in the dem party? Where have they gone? Lieberman does not meet the test. Alito is clearly qualified, yet he will vote no.

The RATS are rancid, scheming liars, bereft of ideas, and intellectually bankrupt.

And those are their good points.

DEAN UNDER FIRE FROM PARTY DEMS; NEARLY ALL CASH SPENT
Mon Jan 30 2006 10:52:31 ET

Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are privately bristling over Howard Dean’s management of the Democratic National Committee and have made those sentiments clear after new fundraising numbers showed he has spent nearly all the committee’s cash and has little left to support their efforts to gain seats this cycle, ROLL CALL reports.

Congressional leaders were furious last week when they learned the DNC has just $5.5 million in the bank, compared to the Republican National Committee’s $34 million.

Senate and House Minority Leaders Harry Reid (Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), along with the Senate and House campaign committee chairmen Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), have made their concerns -- directly or indirectly -- known to Dean, claims the paper.

Emanuel was particularly upset last week upon seeing the latest DNC numbers.

“A lot of people are scratching their heads as to what’s going on,” said one senior Democratic aide.

Another Democratic source familiar with the party fundraising apparatus said there is “obvious displeasure” among the leaders.
