Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

Chaffee said he'll vote no on the confirmation, but he will not entertain a filibuster of the nomination.

MAYOR LAFFEY UNSURPRISED BY CHAFEE’S LACK OF LEADERSHIP

Mayor Laffey lamented Senator Chafee’s announcement this morning that he will vote to oppose Judge Alito’s nomination in the Senate and cited the Senator’s announcement as further proof of Senator Chafee’s extremist positions.

It has been almost a week since the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send Judge Alito’s nomination to the full Senate. Almost all Republican Senators have announced their positions, and numerous moderate Democrats have come out in favor of the nomination. Senator Chafee’s indecision and now, his opposition, leaves one to wonder what his true intentions are. Snip.......

Have you taken out Ensign from the numbers?

Yep. Thursday last week, 6:30 PM more or less.

I hope Frist KNOWS he has 60 cloture votes without Ensign. Otherwise, Ensign needs to show up.

Hatch is always good when he decides to grow a pair, which he usually does on Supreme Court nominations.

Right. The left's agenda is clear. They cannot win at the ballot box, and the judicial system is their only safe harbor to thrust their sickening agenda upon the American people.

They could care less about Alito. They want the Whitehouse and Congress.

I can't agree with that, they are desperate to hold onto control of the left leaning SCOTUS - this is where they have done all their recent damage to this country. They cannot win at the ballot box and I would hope they recognize that or their party really are idiots.

"I just started watching. Have any of the Dimocrats mentioned Alito's "outrageous" CAP membership or the Vanguard non-issue?"

However, Kennedy did mention that Alito will kill kids with asthma.

Pryor is now obstaining now.. which is about as close as a no vote as you can get.

In the context of cloture, it IS a no vote. Filibuster is the name given to "let's not vote." If he is against filibuster, as the agreement says, then he must affirmatively say "let's vote." Silence is the same as "let's not vote."
