Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

Kerry agrees with you. This morning he said (and I quote), "I don't have a clue!"

The poster was saying CSpan had the info up that he is a no vote on Cloture. But he already said he will oppose a filibuster, while voting no on confirmation. It's about what I expected from him, but if CSpan has him no on Cloture, someone needs to correct them.

Cloture is assured. I'm gonna predict a final vote of 59-41 for confirmation of Alito tomorrow morning. We have 57 votes assured. In addition, I predict we'll get two of the following three for confirmation: Snowe, Dorgan, Landrieu. That's my official prediction!

No, if he's sworn in there's a seat for him in the front row. Would like to see Mrs. Alito up there with Laura though.
The thought of Alito in the balcony with Laura is if he is filibustered today, even though he has the support of a majority of senators. If that's the case, he and his wife should be guests of the President and the First Lady.
Of course, if cloture goes through today, if he is confirmed tomorrow morning, and is sworn in soon after, Alito would be with the other justices tomorrow night. (And O'Connor would probably be a guest with Laura in the balcony.) By the way, I agree with the thought of having Mrs. Alito be a guest in the balcony.

From what I understand, Ensign will be released today from the hospital but not in time for the vote today. So he'll be there tomorrow.

Cheney cannot vote on cloture, only in the case of a 50-50 tie. Since you need 60 votes for cloture, that won't happen. Cheney's presence is indicated if there is a risk of successsful objection to cloture, that is, if cloture fails to pass. That is the procedural trigger for the "point of order" known as the nuclear option, or Constitutional option.
A point of order would be rasied by one Senator (probably Frist). The chair would rule on that point of order. Then the DEMs would call for an appeal of the ruling. That call for appeal is not debatable, but is voted on, with a simple majority having its way. That is where Cheny could break a tie.

When former CA Governor Pete Wilson was a senator, he had to be wheeled onto the senate floor from his hospital bed to vote.

Cornyn is brilliant. His comments, he has just concluded on the floor, go to the heart of the matter. It's no use debating qualifications etc.; Cornyn's hitting the Rat's where they live. The Left's lunatic policies and agenda cannot be overstated. Keeping the focus on Alito's views as opposed to those of his opponents is the magic bullet.
