When asked by the media for his thoughts on the Hamas triumph in the Palestinian parliamentary elections, former President Jimmy Carter replied that while they have a terrorist past, at least they're not corrupt.
One of the complaints by many in the Middle East was the corruption within the Palestinian Authority and Yasser Arafat's Fatah Party.
Arafat himself squirreled away millions of dollars from aid packages that were intended to help the Palestinian people.
However, Carter's comment appears to dismiss the years of death and destruction perpetrated by Hamas on the Jewish State.
One of the first statements made by the leaders of Hamas rebuffed demands to disarm and change its charter. Part of Hamas' charter is the total destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic nation.
Israelis are in shock over this development and they wonder how they will be able to negotiate with these newly empowered Islamic Jihadists in their midst.
It's one thing to fight terrorists living in the shadows, but quite another thing to deal with them when the are legally elected officials in a sovereign nation that borders the Israeli State.
Tehran sent its congratulations to the Palestinians, the Hamas movement, all Palestinians combatants, and the great Islamic [jihad].

I will be ecstatic when Jimmy finally goes off to the old folks home, or more likely, the psychiatric ward, and is never heard from again. Hamas not corrupt? Puh-leeze!
That statement should be enough to remove him from all rational discussions, but it won't.
dementia is such a cruel thing to watch consume someone.
---at least they're not corrupt---
That's the good news?
The bad news is they are primitive, murdering ideologues that give humanity a bad name.
Past? Hamas recently reaffirmed its charter, which calls for the total destruction of Israel. This is a terrorist present.
.....at least they're not corrupt.
You mean they haven't yet had the opportunity to fatten their Swiss bank accounts with American/European taxpayer dollars? Give 'em a little time.
And anyway, didn't Jimmy wholeheatedly support the PLO for decades, a group he now accuses of corruption?
Jimmah's hatred for Israel dominates whatever few brains cells he has left.
Can anyone give me a link to the actual quote of what Carter said?

---Within a year of Mr. Reagan's inauguration, everything changed for the better, like night into day!!---
Like night and day! I hear you. Camp Red Cloud here.
RE: Your picture...
Given his proclivity toward despots, I'm surprised he's only SHAKING HANDS with ol' Yessir!
We should make him relevant and expose the nut in our campaign commercials. Use Carter, Kerry, Clinton, Dean, Boxer, Durbin with their anti-american comments and support for terrorists and just put it out there for the americans to see. We should just do some IN YOUR FACE ads . I'm so tired of the press covering up for these idiots, I really think our candidates should simply run against the Democratic Party!
True, all the people they've killed should have been happy that at least they weren't being murdered by those corrupt Fatah terrorists. Uncorrupt Hamas terrorists kill you with more moral justification which will make it feel better for you to be dead.
terrorist past? As in they don't do that anymore?
His brain is officially peanut butter.
Sure, I see his point:
Nothing at all corrupt about mass murder, terrorism, arms trading, charity scams...
I agree.
"That looks like the most happiest moment of Carter's destructive life."
"I bet he never washed his hand after that..."
Carter is relevant because he created some of the WORST of our problems today! Remember in 1979 when our people were held hostage for over 400 days by Khomeini and his Iranian thugs? This gave them the impression that the USA was a "paper tiger" which wouldn't even defend its own citizens when held prisoner in its own embassy. By the way, they were only released after Reagan was elected because they knew he wouldn't go on playing that shameful game. And, towards the end, when Carter staged his abortive rescue attempt we couldn't even field three operational helicopters because the defense budget had been decimated by Carter and his fellow Dems. We also had endless gas lines and "stagflation". Carter was an embarrassment to all Americans and the worst president of the 20th century. Yes, the WORST!! He even made Warren Harding look like a pretty good chief executive! and his hangers-on are still around denouncing Bush and the war in Iraq -- like that has-been failure Zbigniew Brzynski. (I'm sure that's misspelled but I've been trying to suppress his memory!)
Weren't these guys taking money from Saddam Hussein when one of their buddies blew himself up?
I'm really not sure how you could call them NOT corrupt.
I don't understand the problem here - wasn't Arafat a Palestinian too, helping himself? :-)
