And I'm sure the poll isn't skewed to the right.

allowing illegal immigrants in the U.S. to earn citizenship if they learn English, have a job and pay taxes.

Imagine.

Round em up, pick em up, head em out ...back to the border. I would support with my dollars a fund to round them all up and ship them back to their native country. And forget about the dribble of, they are just doing it to support their families, it is THEIR countries responsibility to provide them a job, not Uncle Sam.

First, let's plug the hole in our sinking boat. Then, start bailing.

TIME’s Poll shows that half (50%) of Americans favor deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries (45% oppose).

Okay, let's start with the 50% who support deportation of illegals.

Now subtract from that 50% the voters who are Democrats and yes even liberals who want to see illegals deported. What you have left is a position that the Republican party won't support.

The numbers are puny.

We need more people who support the position to deport illegals. The politicians would follow.

The other half are the illegal aliens.

Time poll: half of Americans favor deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries

Of course. And the other half wants to get them to the welfare office and registered Democrat.

I think what you need to do is to have workers permits BUT they can only be obtained from the home country. I think once that is passed you can deport anyone who doesn't have a valid workers permit.

Give a 6 months notice that the law will go into effect and anyone caught without a valid workers permit will not only be deported, but they will never be allowed back in the country. That way you don't have the expense of rounding them up and deporting them. If they have a current job, their employers can attest that they have a job waiting and they should be immediately issued permits FROM THEIR OWN COUNTRY AND ONLY IF THEY ARE THERE IN PERSON!

half of Americans favor deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries

The other half are anchor babies, illegal employers, and people whose jobs depend upon illegals, such as politicians, race-baiters, bilingual teachers, etc.

Can't we start doing regular seismic readings for underground tunnels on the border? Also, if we find these tunnels, we should use our experimental bunker buster bombs on them. We can then see where the tunnels lead to on the other side of the border.

Nobody has to even bring up deportation, people are free to come and go where they feel welcomed and needed, just ask simple questions;

Ask how many are in favor of slavery, while pointing out a recent study the many illegal are beat and or never paid, and the ones who are paid, are paid less than a living wage to support a single family dwelling which is more than even slave owners in the 1800s provided.

Ask how many are in favor of their property taxes and income taxes being used for housing, food, education, roads, water, sewage, expenses, which is equal to the savings the illegal employers are pocketing for their own use in their gated communities.

Ask how many are in favor of law enforcement that makes it illegal to question or deport illegal immigrant criminal’s based upon their immigration status and allows them to use counterfeit documents. But at the same time they assign task forces to persecute our own kids for holding counterfeit copies of mp3s.

Ask how many are in favor in the war on terrorism, and volunteer to be strip searched at the entry to our airports while at the same time, transport trucks and humveess can drive though wide open gaps through the entry points on the border.

Ask how many would lower the standards of education for our children to below high school level, and not require literacy, while at the same time allow Latin American kids to live in amoungst us , half of whom don’t have a high school education. While those that do, ask how many are in favor of giving them preferential treatment to enter our universities.

Ask how many are in favor of paying through the roof medical premiums while offering illegal immigrants free medical care.

Finally ask how many are in favor of equality and the rule of law?

This is a total contadiction. I do not believe that 76% of people favor a plan that allows all of the illegals in this country to earn citizenship(amnesty). It does not fit with the other polls, or even the other numbers within this poll.

I think deporting illegals is a step in the right direction, but it should be an on going effort. A mass roundup and deportation process would be overly burdensome. Instead, we need to demand the Feds secure the borders using whatever means is required. Fences, walls, increased BP and if necessary use the military to assist. The Feds should enforce the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which PresReagan signed into law. It calls for prosecuting and punishing employers who hire illegals. In addition, the Feds should immediately halt welfare handouts to illegals. If the Feds take these steps, America can start to solve our illegal immigration problem.

it's a mixed result. In the same poll:

" half (50%) of Americans favor deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries

Three-in-four (76%) favor allowing illegal immigrants in the U.S. to earn citizenship if they learn English, have a job and pay taxes. . . . "

I think the only thing the poll shows that people didn't think it through and are just having knee-jerk reaction to how the question is phrased.

Or the questions were phrased poorly in the first place.

The above two statements are contradictory and mutually exclusive.

It would be helpful to know where they are all from. We're talking about millions right? What method of travel? Just how much tax money are we talking about here? I know AZ was using air to transport illegals back to Mexico and it got way too costly so they stopped.
