Social Forum activists to protest U.S.-Mexico border fence

CARACAS, Venezuela Activists at the World Social Forum plan a demonstration against U-S proposals to extend a wall along the Mexico border and toughen immigration laws.

They say the demonstration against the measures will start in southern Mexico and culminate in El Paso in May.

Activists at the forum in Venezuela accuse the governments of the United States and Mexico of "violating human rights" and not protecting migrants.

A House bill proposes building 700 miles of additional fences along the border while making illegal entry a felony. It would enlist military and local police to help stop undocumented migrants. The bill must still be considered by the U-S Senate.

Hugo Chavez is getting in on the border fence issue, threatening to send his hippie army to bother us.

This is a reminder as to why that fence is being built: If we don't like Mexicans getting onto our land, we will like Hugo even less. Build that fence higher.

Typical Latin logic, apparently an affront to their machismos that someone would stand up to their idiotic actions. Myself if I were from these countries I would ask why do I have to leave my country to find prosperity?

I'd say the network of tunnels negates any benefits of a wall. Seems like a waste. Better to finance "Hunter" forces that are mobile and open fire on anyone who crosses. A show of force is the ONLY thing that will make an impression at this late date in the whole disaster that our border has become. Consequences? Well, consider the consequences of unabated illegal immigration shutting down private hospitals and the unending death at the hands of criminals who enter uncheck by our current open-door policy.

Unacceptable...and the Republicans are just as much scumbags as are the rats on this issue.

I think a "Bounty" placed on anyone who crosses DOA would be appropriate. Let the local militia in and give them an incentive to hunt down invaders. I'm fairly short of good will towards a people who simply have no respect for the friendship of our nation. In fact, I'd say it's time to show them an appropriate level of contempt.

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.

Start building the fence.

It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

Another reason to support building a fence.

Even Bagala and Carville stated that they support a fence.

I disagree. Over 99% of illegals enter the United States on foot. Tunneling takes a tremendous amount of money and effort to yield a very small volume of human traffic (tunnels are more effective for high-value goods and individuals). A wall allows fewer border guards to defend against foot traffic, and frees other forces to use technological means to defeat tunnel smuggling.

Remember the first live-saving step: STOP THE BLEEDING. Build the damned wall!

Good points. The general population fleeing Mexico will not have access to tunnels. Yet I think the two thoughts in conjunction would be far more effective than either one alone. Weall want to see this stopped!

If, as we are assured, the fences don't prevent illegal immigration, why bother protesting it?

The Duncan Hunter 15' Fence. Where it exists, there are no illegals walking into the USA.

The tunnels are high cost items built by billionaire narco trafficantes to move dope. Illegals can't "pay" for tunnels. Their large numbers on both ends would be an easy signature, and the tunnels would quickly be found and shut. So, illegal alien smugglers don't bother. Tunnels are strictly the realm of wealthy drug gangs, and are used where border defenses (fences) make crossing at the surface impossible.

"violating human rights"

When millions of illegal aliens cost American taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars every year to support, it's obvious that it's OUR human rights that are being violated, not theirs.

Build that wall, and build it HIGH, then start deporting the invaders that we have been forced to put up with and pay for.

If anyone mentions "cheap lettuce" I will puke.

Chavez, Castro and other communist purveyors of evil have no business dictating to us regarding "human rights" of people. Their record of bloodletting and killing is abysmal.

Build the wall Now to secure our nation and maintain our sovereignty. Anything less violates our leaders' and representatives' oaths of office and the Constitution.
