WASHINGTON -- After bucking Democratic Party leaders by announcing a filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr., Senators John F. Kerry and Edward M. Kennedy yesterday scrambled for votes to support their move -- ignoring derisive hoots from Republicans and even a prediction by the Senate's top Democrat that their maneuver was doomed.

This is a classic example of why democrats are not likely rise to power in this country for a very, very long time.

even a prediction by the Senate's top Democrat that their maneuver was doomed.

One would think that any Democratic Senator up for election would not want to anger pro-lifers at this point.

Kerry, Kennedy, and other DemoRats can rely on Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL). Nelson is their puppet. The following is from The Weekly Standard Magazine (www.weeklystandard.com):

THE LAST WORD

What's the most shameless political act of the last 20 years? It's a wide-open competition with a long list of nominees from left, right, and center. But this week I'd like to nominate Senator Bill Nelson (D-Florida) for his explanation of why he's voting against Judge Samuel Alito:

I explained how a recent Supreme Court decision has frightened many of our constituents who fear that their homes can now be seized by the government to make way for a private developer's project. And while he expressed sympathy for the parties whose homes had been seized in this personal meeting with him he offered no misgivings about the legal reasoning that led to that outcome.

Senator Nelson is referring to the Supreme Court's Kelo decision. In that case, a majority of liberal justices held that while the Constitution says that the power of eminent domain may be used to take private lands for "public use," they thought that the phrase "public use" was outmoded and unimportant and would be better replaced by the phrase "public purpose." That's a text-book definition of judicial activism.

There is no chance--none--that Judge Alito, based on his fidelity to the actual text of the Constitution would have gone along with such a wacky decision. You know it; Bill Nelson knows it; the American people know it.

Clearly Sen. Nelson was the victim of cross-pressures--his liberal base needed him to vote against Alito, but he understood that his constituents wouldn't like it. And so, he made up a phony rationale--that Alito wasn't conservative enough!

Isn't politics great?

Best,
Jonathan V. Last

Nelson (D-FL) has also claimed Alito is for big government. Nelson has it exactly backwards, since lunatic liberal judges trying to legislate from the bench are a prime example of government by edict, without voters and their elected represenatives.

Hanoi Boi's yodeling is very obnoxious. He's a bigger sore loser than his buddy, Algore. He needs to go back to his Swiss chalet and stop screwing up America. The people in Massachusetts really need to do something about these two pixies and give the rest of America a break.

Let me add to my earlier post that I think Kerry is terrifically stupid to align himself on this (or anything) with Democratic-waterboy-because-he-isn't-good-for-anything-else Ted Kennedy. Kennedy can afford to look like a loser on this. Kerry can't, given his presidential aspirations. He's sooooo stupid.

This statement by Senator Byrd says it all...

"Was it necessary to subject Mrs. Alito to the harsh glare of the television klieg lights as she fled the hearing room in tears, fighting to maintain her dignity in response to others with precious little of their own?"

They've been voting an alcoholic murderer in for how many decades now? That state is a lost cause cause one of three things is going on.

1.) They don't care about ethics
2.) They don't pay attention and just keep voting in incumbants and people named Kennedy to relive glory days.
3.) The elections are fixed.

These are our options and none of them are promising....and it's probably one of the first two.

Actually there is a lesson here for Republicans. Democrats understand the need to wage losing battles for PR reasons. This shows the Nutsy Left that they "Care" about their issues. If this were the Republicans they would "play it safe" to "avoid a defeat" and give the impression they were just rolling over for the Dems. A symbolic defeat can be more useful for mobilizing the base then all the "Safe" victories. Republicans would be wise to keep in mind that sometime in politics the fact that you waged a FIGHT is as important as WINING
