Clinton to support Alito filibuster Says she’ll join Sen. Kerry in blocking Alito’s nomination, putting her at odds with top Democrats

BY GLENN THRUSH WASHINGTON BUREAU

January 27, 2006, 9:41 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday announced she'll join potential 2008 presidential rival John Kerry in voting to filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, just as top Democratic leaders predicted the effort is likely doomed.

With three Democratic senators pledging support for Alito, the New Jersey conservative seems virtually assured of being confirmed by the full Senate Monday or Tuesday, party leaders predicted Friday. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters in Washington that "everyone knows" Senate Democrats couldn't muster the 40 votes needed to support a last-ditch filibuster.

Just like Kerry...

I posted earlier that Kerry is at it again...he is going for the Purple Heart..instead of charging into battle where he could really get hurt.

"It isn't DU...it's the NYT. Rush talked about it today saying that their editorial calling for a filibuster was equivilant to a red-dye explosive and Kerry bought it hook, line and sinker."

Democratic Activists have convinced themselves that the NY Times represents the **voice** of Middle America, and they can't grasp why the NYT's advice consistently costs them elections.

...as they've progressively lost most registered voters, most state legislatures, most state governorships, the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

It's a thing of beauty.

I love your rant...it is spot on.

But, do you think it is them that have changed...or is the circumstances???

Like, Karl Rove said....the dems are still living in a pre-9/11 world and want to keep it that way...

while the GOP are living in the post 9/11 world and are terrified of what could happen.

I just think we have a party whose slogan should be "Ignorance is bliss"....

Honestly, I have been praying for a filibuster because it puts us in such a strategically strong position!

Karl Rove-type genius to get the Dems to fall into the bear trap hole...like our good friend Alec Baldwin.

BTW, Dennis Miller is on HDT-HBO right now...and he's into the political landscape....a riot.

You must have missed Juan Williams performance on the roundtable at the end of Brit's show...

It is being replayed in less than 20 minutes...you have GOT to watch the discussion about this with Juan, Fred Barnes, and Charles Krauthammer...

Juan is the POSTER child for the attitude at DU tonight.

Honestly, it's not just the instincts that she lacks. She has this nasty little habit of shrieking. Get her worked up, and that shrill scream combined with that possessed look in her eyes will drive Mr. and Mrs. Jones far, far away.

CNN says it's closer to 70.

If its' that high, the *itch, she really must have been "spooked" by the NYT.

I may be wrong, but I cannot believe people like Reid, Biden, and a few others see a filibuster in the Dim's best interest. Too obtructionist. My guess is a few of the Dims from safe seats, or who need to project a moderate image, will cross over and vote for cloture. Just enough to invoke it, is all. Then when the confirmation vote comes up they will vote against Alito, but he will be confirmed.

Losing voters is why they recently called for convicted felons to have the right to vote...in Maryland.

The GOP only won the governorship by 362K votes.

I don't know, TX; I'm not smart enough to know the why; I'm like everybody else here on this forum, just trying to figure out what is going on.

I know one thing though: if you talk to people we know who are Democrats, they don't think like this at all; and they are stunned at what these people are doing.

I imagine nearly every Democrat except for those three who have already announced that they will vote for Alito's confirmation, plus, of course, the seven Democrats from the "Gang of Fourteen", will support the bogus filibuster attempt in order to appease the socialist lunatic fringe, ie., the Democrat "base". That's no more than 35 votes - - not even close.

Oh...I agree with you there....that is why I posted earlier that Daschle screwed up...because he thought the looney left reflected the view of regular Americans...and they don't...

BTW...with Soros, Neas and Nan Aron...I don't suppose they are "lobbying" are they???? LOL

Now she has to guard her left flank or risk losing her base.

I think the only way Hillary loses her base it to move any farther to the right. She's ok, imo, where she's at right now re:her base. This move is dumb because she's just associated herself with the fringe and alienated a chunk of the middle. Maybe it's the move of a soul-less power-grabber without a moral, pricipled compass???

Just in the past month there has been a sprinkling of articles by the liberal media critical of Hillary's vacilating on positions to the point where her motives are transparent even to them and they're getting ticked. Even Molly Ivins (she needs prayers for her illness) has dinged her for taking NO position on issues.
