Clinton to support Alito filibuster Says she’ll join Sen. Kerry in blocking Alito’s nomination, putting her at odds with top Democrats

BY GLENN THRUSH WASHINGTON BUREAU

January 27, 2006, 9:41 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday announced she'll join potential 2008 presidential rival John Kerry in voting to filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, just as top Democratic leaders predicted the effort is likely doomed.

With three Democratic senators pledging support for Alito, the New Jersey conservative seems virtually assured of being confirmed by the full Senate Monday or Tuesday, party leaders predicted Friday. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters in Washington that "everyone knows" Senate Democrats couldn't muster the 40 votes needed to support a last-ditch filibuster.

In your heart you know it's true.

When you and I first came here to FR years ago, we were fighting Democrats; we didn't like them, but they were HONEST in their beliefs, whether we thought they were stupid of not.

When you and I came to FR, we didn't trash the Democrats because of their agenda, we trashed them because they were CROOKS and they were abusing the institutions of this government.

And think of how DUMB we were in December of 2000, all hanging around here saying "Boy, I can't wait for them all to be gone, I don't want to ever seen another Clinton butt kisser?"

How could we have been that stupid? What we have here today, five years almost to the day, is far worse than anything I could have imagined Clinton doing. And I do mean Bill.

These people are the people you and I scoffed at back in the 60's -- they tried to destroy this country then -- and now that they have managed to engrain themselves in the fabric of this country, in my heart of hearts I believe they are back to finish this country off.

I am not a conspiratorialist or a tin-foil hatter, and it takes a lot to get me riled up, but I'll tell you this:

I'd take a Bill Clinton any day of the week compared to these people on the left now; they scare the very living hell out of me, for myself and for my children and grandchildren.

I love the game of politics; this is NOT a game anymore. It's a fight to the death, IMO. And it's for this country.

Why are we happy when somebody says s/he want to filibuster Alito?

Because we have 55 Republican senators voting for cloture along with at least 3 Democrats voting for Alito. This brings us to 58 and over 60 with Landrieu, Pryor, Lincoln, Akaka, etc. willing to vote for vote for cloutre.

The problem with your "celebratory" saying is...

when the dems thought that Karl Rove was going to be frog-marched out of the White House, they were celebrating "Fitzmas"...

but, they pretty much got coal in their stockings...

soo...the Christmas analogy MIGHT...be back luck!! LOL

It isn't DU...it's the NYT.

Rush talked about it today saying that their editorial calling for a filibuster was equivilant to a red-dye explosive and Kerry bought it hook, line and sinker.

From Switzerland.

"The most beautiful part of this is that Kerry, never one to shy away from a TV mike, took this on from OUTSIDE the country."

I really cracked up tonight listening to Scott McClellan talking about this. He was funny.

I don't think he even cares. It's always been all about Bill

Exactly. And that is why he's not as bad as the ones we're dealing with today; he was all about himself;

Now, I don't believe she's that way at all. I believe she is a socialist.

And that's why she's more dangerous that he could have ever been.

Hitlery is in Oregon tonight at the Portland Hilton for a fund raiser. Thought she was presently running for an office representing New Yorkers, not sure why she's coming here. Oregon Dems are a bit uptight about it, figuring she'll be siphoning money that ought to be going to Oregon candidates right now. Oh well that's how the cookie crumbles I guess.

But back to our story. She's backing a filibuster of Alito's confirmation vote. Her and not quite enough other Dems to accomplish anything but making themselves out to be nitwits and exactly nothing more. Ho hum. Our leftist Eugene Red Guard even editorialized that the Senate should confirm Alito without a fuss. Said if the Dems wanted their type of dude (or dudette) on the high court they should have run an electable candidate for President. Made more sense than anything I've read in their editorial column since, well, ever I'm pretty sure.

Not sure why Newsday stuff gets posted here. Such meaningless drivel.

Oh I can see that, for sure!

Have you EVER seen anything like that in our lives? I was stunned sitting here reading it; I could almost HEAR Pinch squealing like a stuck pig while he dictated it.

Between that editorial and her going on and on about how the poor Democrats don't have any "power" because they are in the minority and you better give us back our power," it's not too hard to connect the dots, is it?

I was over at DU a little while ago...and they are really looking forward to next week....for the opposite reason.

They really believe this is a winner for them....probably like they did the Wellstone memorial.

But, they have a list, including the Enron trial starting, and Scooter Libby's trial...and the NSA hearings...that they are getting excited about.

"She is in trouble with the lunatic left of the Dim Party because of her stance on the Iraq War."

What the reptile doesn't understand is that she's in trouble with everyone. Everyone - whether Left or Right - knows she's an opportunist and liar who will do anything for power.

The reptile may be smart, but the reptile doesn't have the luxury of being a horn dog from Arkansas.

Well, you know, Kerry is a CITIZEN of the world.

He's all about meeting the "global test."

He is anti-American all the way.

My opinion.

If they filibuster Alito it is a lose/lose. If they hold off until the next nomination after having given the two white guys a pass is going to be a lose/lose/lose/lose...

It is a thing of beauty, isn't it? We have arrived at the point where they have to make that choice: die now, or die later.

And....Bubba has been making some "mistakes" lately, IMHO...by going to Bahrain (?) to give that speech saying we should never have invaded Iraq...when we have boxes of videos of him saying just the opposite...

and NOW...after hammering for 4 years, that "Bush lied" about WMDS...and should have used more diplomacy..yada yada...

Hillary comes out complaining that Bush has been using diplomacy and HASN'T done more in Iran...even though, we may not know much more about Iran..than we did about Iraq.

They really believe this is a winner for them....

How? I must be stupid, but HOW on earth do they think this could be anything short of a disaster?

And, btw, let's see that list........LOL.

The thing is...this is the same thing that got Daschle voted OUT of his Majority Leader Senate seat...

Americans are NOT happy when judges are not given up/down votes..and are smeared in the process.

Daschle made the mistake of listening to the looney left base...but, they aren't the majority of democrats.

Let me ask you this: did you ever think you'd see the day when we'd sit around and talk about how people were WORSE than Bill Clinton...........LOL.

Hell, to me he's not even as annoying as Al Franken now.
