Clinton to support Alito filibuster Says she’ll join Sen. Kerry in blocking Alito’s nomination, putting her at odds with top Democrats

BY GLENN THRUSH WASHINGTON BUREAU

January 27, 2006, 9:41 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday announced she'll join potential 2008 presidential rival John Kerry in voting to filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, just as top Democratic leaders predicted the effort is likely doomed.

With three Democratic senators pledging support for Alito, the New Jersey conservative seems virtually assured of being confirmed by the full Senate Monday or Tuesday, party leaders predicted Friday. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters in Washington that "everyone knows" Senate Democrats couldn't muster the 40 votes needed to support a last-ditch filibuster.

"History will show that Judge Alito's nomination is the tipping point against constitutionally-based freedoms and protections we cherish as individuals and as a nation," Clinton wrote in a statement during a fundraising stop in Seattle.

The loser, Madame Hamhocks, makes this absurd statement in the losing Super Bowl city.

How appropriate.

I think Hillary is trianulating badly. She knows there won't be a filibuster so she can vote against cloture and say she will filibuster, but it is safe because there are enough votes for cloture. In her thinking she pleases everyone.

In reality, and to be honest, Hillary pleases no one.

I'd take a Bill Clinton any day of the week compared to these people on the left now; they scare the very living hell out of me, for myself and for my children and grandchildren

In the San Francisco Bay Area, "these people" are what comprise the Democrat majority -- along with their droids -- everywhere at work, journalists, at schools, at the office, at work, at grocery stores, on your kids' soccer teams, in your neighborhoods. I know what living in Hellmouth is. There is no low too low for these people.

She thinks that voters will forget and she will continue to try to triangulate

I love the game of politics; this is NOT a game anymore. It's a fight to the death, IMO. And it's for this country.

You know as well as I do that if Bill Clinton were in some place like Davos, Switzerland, he'd be launching into kookery too.

I agree, I love the game of politics as much as you do, and believe it's NOT much of a game anymore. I will say this much; I will NEVER put my faith behind any Democrat who seeks to destroy this nation, destroy this President, destroy this administration, and lie to the American people about how they will protect the Constitution, when it's been the Democrats who have been ramming their agenda down the American peoples throats by judicial fiat, even after the people have spoken with their votes.

No. I don't trust Bill Clinton. He's just as slimy as the next Democrat. I didn't trust him as President, and I sure as hell don't trust him now.

So are we going to soon see Hillary posting on the Daily Kos like Kerry and now TED KENNEDY are?

Seems to me this is bigger news than Feinstein's switcheroo.

She just can't let Kerry get to the left of her. Bad move on her part, imo.

Clinton to support Alito filibuster

Why would Scumbagette, wife of Scumbag, support a man of impeccable credentials, a brillian mind, and receiver of the highest possible recommendation from the ABA, when Scumbagette is a lying opportunist and has such a filthy, slimy record of deceit and corruption?

My guess is they are going to try to pick up some of the female vote after the Miers debacle/in-party trashing. If that is the plan they had better come out strong with this or it will backfire.

Bill Clinton lost my respect in 1998 when I heard that Pakistan just got nuclear bombs.

The problem is...the Republicans kept talking about Monika at the time and, therefore, I never knew I was a Republican until after 9-11. National security wasn't even an issue in 2000, or if it was, Gore won on the grounds that he would not be an isolationist.

Let's just hope she's right that the confirmation of Alito will be a "tipping point."

In one sense, it's not, because with that rat Kennedy moving further and further to the left, it's still 5-4 for the leftists.

In another sense, it is, because after Alito has been confirmed we will have demonstrated that it's possible to appoint an acknowledged conservative to the court as long as he is super well qualified and pleasant and makes a good impression on television.

Of course that will depend on whether Bush gets another shot at appointing a candidate, or on keeping control of the senate and winning the presidency in 2008. But there's no question that abortion is losing its appeal to the voters, and the pro-aborts are having a harder and harder time making their argument that abortion is "in the main stream" of American culture.

Hi tina....I went to bed last night before seeing your post.

I am so happy for you...and I have to tell you that I was not sure about people that said that being a grandparent was SO great...until I became one.

I have a 6 year old granddaughter by my son...and a 1 year old granddaughter by my daughter...and I have to tell you, that those babies have grabbed ahold of my heart in a way that I didn't think was possible...

As much as I have loved my own kids...this is just so wonderful x 2...it is hard to explain.

Please let us know when the baby comes so we can celebrate with you, okay???

LOL! Not really. Kerry did the filibuster to force the Beeste to pick a side and thereby eliminate her triangulation.

She figures that those who want to believe that she's centrist will continue to do so and the rest of us will all know that she's a wack job nut case communist dictator wannabe.

For all the talk of Clinton's shift to the center on abortion, she can ill-afford to let a possible adversary [Kerry] outflank her on the left...

If Hillary Rodham wants to pull the rug from John Kerry, all she needs to do is ask him about the terms of his "separation" from the Navy in '72.

Then again, John Kerry can yank the rug from Hillary by asking about her senior thesis at Wellesley. (But wait, there's more, to wit- Saul Alinsky, and the Barret report, and the FALN pardons, Peter Paul...whoa, the list does go on, doesn't it?)
