Molly Ivins, battling breast cancer afresh, sounds as feisty as ever.
The South Austin resident continues writing her left-of-center column, raising money for the journal where she forged her tart take on politics and, of course, cheerfully gigging Republicans such as the well-coifed governor of Texas. Ivins, 61, tongue-in-cheeked that Gov. Rick Perry's trip to Iraq this week will slow anti-American insurgents. "The mere sight of his hair will do a world of good," she said.
She chatted with two visitors to her home office in Travis Heights without donning her wig of reddish-blond locks; her pate was nearly bald.
The California native, who grew up in the tony River Oaks section of Houston, fielded her latest (and third) cancer diagnosis around Thanksgiving. Surely she could be excused for feeling sorry for herself or slowing down.
"Actually," she said, "I feel pretty good." Renewed chemotherapy appears to be helping.
Ivins has all but forbidden gifts of food and other items. She was overwhelmed with well-intended advice and goodies after she wrote of her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. The outpouring kept her from telling readers of the recurrences in 2003 and two months ago, her assistant, Betsy Moon, said.

Bone marrow transplants have worked, but evidently they don't do that now...too expensive.
There's more to life than politics. Kindness is the one human quality I value more than any other. Leaving politics aside, offering prayers and good wishes to her in battling this life-threatening illness is a kind thing to do. Good luck, Molly.
I saw liberals cheering in 1981 when Reagan was shot. They didn't like his stance on the environment and one was observed, a week later, saying "I'm sorry Hinckley missed."
I saw her on cspan.
Did not know about her cancer but she is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there politically.
She obviously never speaks to anyone but far left kool aid drinks.
He words were a characature of a real person. Hard to believe anyone actually believes what she was saying with any degree of seriousness.
Then let THEM be the haters.
Sometimes we must excuse Leftist pundits, they simply don't know any better.
The liberal viewpoint has become such the default position in their circles, they don't even know it when they see it.
I agree with my fellow posters, that we don't wish death or illness on our political opponents [don't get me wrong -- I wish death on evil in the world, and that includes radical Muslims, but not liberal Democrats] -- but I will get flamed for saying it, but Miss Ivins' politics might be killing her.
Why? Medicine likes to talk about the risk of breast cancer primarily being genetics, but there is a very strong correlation between breast cancer and:
1. Abortion
2. Never having children.
These results do not get much credence in the media although serious scientists, who are not driven by politics, talk about them. For (2), the cancer incidence, moderated by other factors and genetics, is inversely related to the number of menstrual cycles a woman has during her lifetime, and the number of children. It is hormone related. For (1), it is also hormone-related, but the cancer incidence is related to the interruption of the normal hormone delivery that the body is expecting once pregnant.
I hate to say it but the lovely Miss Ivins' cancer might be due to (1) staying single and childless all her life, and (2) having possibly had abortions.
Prayers for her complete recovery -- physically, mentally and spiritually.
May God be with Molly as she fights this.
She's a radical liberal, but when she came out against Hillary, I jumped for joy. Molly isn't putting us on wrt dissing Hillary.

And political?
I am very well acquainted with a woman who never had an abortion, had two children and HER Breast Cancer was NOT hormone dependent.
Next..

Hope she gets through it.
"I hate to say it but the lovely Miss Ivins' cancer might be due to (1) staying single and childless all her life, and (2) having possibly had abortions."
Yeah, and I hated your saying it. I think all of that BS has been proven false.
Not gonna happen. Molly knows the game. She knows Hillary is a ultra lib masquerading as a moderate.
not worth a reply to someone who doesn't understand statistics or the irrelevance of a single example
I'm sure you "hate" saying it. Idle speculation is your sad duty, no doubt.
Well, rather thank "think" and impugn my integrity by calling my facts "BS" I suggest you do some simple online research. There are lots of non-partisan souces which consider abortion and the number of children, and the early having of children, factors. They're so easy to find I'll let you find the links.
