LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.
Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.
"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."
Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.
At one point during her address, which was part of a lecture series, some audience members booed when she cut off two questioners. "I'm not going to be lectured to," Coulter told one man in a raised voice.
She drew more boos when she said the crack cocaine problem "has pretty much gone away."

These are some jabs that will be taken by Conservatives as well. Conservatives who feel some of her latest tasteless remarks do not reflect their values. Not a fervent fan of Ann's but I thought she was much brighter than this. This was stupid.
People sure got hot under the collar about that.
And my point is that it was acceptable to me.
And I'm in no danger of deluding myself into believing that I have been annointed to decide what is acceptable to you. I just wish for the simple courtesy of reciprocity.
Bingo! We have a winner!
Yeah, I remember.
It was Julianne Malveaux and she said "The man is on the Court. You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. Well, thats how I feel. He is an absolutely reprehensible person."
If they try, it will only build her popularity among her core followers.
She consistently uses very harsh humor to bring attention to topics. She has a very caustic wit.
Her humor does not sit well with everyone. She doesn't try and market herself to everyone.
However, she is incredibly bright, and usually meticulously researches the information that she follows up with after grabbing people's attention with this kind of comment.
I don't always agree with her, but she's most always interesting to read, and usually has something important to say.
They both freaked out when she said we "should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity".
But they didn't have a problem with their buddy Frum posting pro-abortion comments on NRO.
Rich Lowry is brilliant, but he IS a bit of a wuss.
I think she lowered herself to the level of the liberals - fair game or not. She just looked, to me, nasty and silly.
I think people need to read the transcript of Ann on Cavuto detailing her Christmas wishes to get the joke here.
As I recall a lot of people screamed for her head over that statement. I wonder how many of them are cheering Coulter on now.
Well maybe there is justification... 1.5 million abortions per year... at 30 plus years...
I saw that... her wish list had an item of a few more conservative supreme court justices.
I think we still have it on TiVO... if we do, I'll type up a transcript and post it here.
Awwww c'mon!
Nobody can be at the top of their form all the time. As busy and active as she is, cut her some slack...
How often do we conservatives lament over how often those representing us in Congress play nice, cave in and allow liberals to run roughshod over good people (the unborn, for example)?
We want them to act tougher with the crybabies, right?
So then, one of our shining lights (Ann) who has dared to confront evildoers shows some humanity and some of us worry about what the MSM will think or do?
Come now.
We've got politicians in Washington, disguised in black robes as Supreme Court justices, making the decisions for Americans and supporting the killing of the unborn.
And we mince words with these people??
Ann overstepped of course, but the one thing liberals love is seeing a bunch of conservatives bash one of their shining lights for one single mistake.
They're not enjoying what Ann said nearly as much as reading threads like this one.
Is it too much to say that it might be good for a pro-abort to actually experience sometime what a saline abortion feels like? In the hope some amount of empathy for the unborn might be felt?
It's just really, really sad that liberals are free to say absolutely anything they want about conservatives, while some in our ranks feel so pitifully tongue-tied.
Ann made a mistake. But her many bull's eye comments far, far exceed one overstatement. We all know she would never condone the murder of any person, be he/she liberal or not. In fact, most conservatives show themselves to value life across the board.
The reality? It is the liberal mindset which seeks to poison those they have no use for. Ever heard of euthanasia? Let's get our bearings here.
Ann is not for murder, nor is any sound conservative voice.
She's a man, baby!
I thought someone said the same thing about Cheney. Was it Susan Estrogen?
