A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Was thinking .. btw, live on the left coast, don't want to make folks jealous ... we do have a little bit of a winter but not yet so far.
In years when we have had winter, there is finally a day when it SMELLS like Spring!

It's cool enough here, hovering around low 60s each day with a brief warm spot mid-day, but NOT wintry.
You folks are still in drought, right?

Not so much where I live..near Houston, but still could use some rain.. I lived on the left coast for over 10 years and another year or two here and there..I am familiar with the mild winters there. I loved some of the flowers I grew there that are difficult or impossible here when we get so hot.

Fragile flowers do well here. Like me. Lol.
Although some that like cold don't do well, such as tulips or lilacs.
What are the ones you miss growing?

Sunday at The Finest has become more and more special and meaningful, Your Honor.
Your three years of faithful posting of The Daily Bread excerpt and the growing number of contributions in this vein make this a true "church" - one where His children are able to come together to praise and thank our loving, merciful Father.
Many, like me, are not able to attend formal services any longer. However, "church" cannot be defined by nor limited to a "structure."
Where did Jesus preach?
Out among the masses...
What did Jesus wear?
Not a fancy robe, but humble clothing like those to whom He spoke,
walking through the dust in sandals to where they gathered...
Thus, *any gathering of two or more* constitutes His church,
not dependent upon buildings, clothing, looks nor acts...
The blessings He bestows are so many!
The greatest gift of all is His sending us His Son,
so that we might one day stand before Him
without spot or blemish - -

Fuchias, ranunculas, come to mind.Tuberous begonias..You can grow them but they wilt soon in the heat and so it isn't really worth it.
I had gorgeous roses that took so little care there.I lived near Santa Barbara. My impatiens reseeded themselves and I had fun planting the hanging baskets with my own seedlings. I think I covered them once or twice when I was there because of cold..Here they would freeze if left out doors year round. I missed our spring Texas wildflowers, though. I am really a Texan....and am glad I am here. I consider California my second home.

I'm glad you are where your heart is.
Fuschia does surprisingly well here, considering it likes cooler weather. I have always loved those "dancing ladies." They are big in Ireland, did you know?
I am a rose fanatic also. Do not have growing space right now, but as soon as I do, in go the rose bushes.
When it comes down to it, can't beat wildflowers.

Good afternoon, La La in La La Land..:))
Here on this westerly side of South Carolina, our mild "winter" continues, still with mostly mid to upper 60's by day, continuing through another week, and today blessed with another gentle, intermittent rain.
One of my pet peeves is regions where I've lived where the locals use the weather primarily for a social conversation filler, unable to voice something important..:)
Case in point:
After 14 drops in succession have ruined their hair/mood/day,
out of their mouth comes,
"Oh - I just wish it would stop all this rainin!"
No matter one has been in a drought condition for months - farmers unable to plant/germinate/successfully grow vital crops, going belly up for yet another year...
everything is all about their creature comforts.
[my personal feeling is they ought to be sent to the Sahara Desert
for an Attitude Adjustment! - LOL]

Thank you so much, Rus.
