"U.S. agents had been investigating the possibility of an elaborate drug-smuggling tunnel between Tijuana and San Diego for more than a year, but couldn't find it despite using military equipment so advanced it's classified"

~snip

"“This tunnel beats them all,” said Michael Unzueta, special agent in charge of the San Diego office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, "

~snip

"“People are always going to find a way around us,” he said."

I agree that the fence/wall/etc won't stop the tunneling being done for drugs

I suspect the cartel is not going to allow the human smuggling folks use their tunnels. The risk is too great that someone from the US could go undercover and for a few grand, be shown where the expensive tunnels are.

"Treking across the border is done by people with no or little money, just when was the last time a person with access to large funding got caught in the desert ? "

You kidding?

The invaders are frequently found to be carrying hundreds to thousands of dollars when they are caught!
Funds they use to pay off the "Coyotes", buy illegal ID's, cover any incidental bribes along the way, get bus tickets to their final goal once in the U.S., etc.
The myth that they are all "Just poor peons seeking a better life" is a MYTH!

Some may be poor peons, but many are from Mex. cities, and leave pretty good jobs to sneak into the U.S., often with a stash of drugs to pay for their passage.
Once here they immediately enter the criminal underground, as it is the most lucrative enterprise available.

These invaders have no intent to pick crops, they are here to loot the U.S. for all they can get, any way they can.
Their attitude is that we have so much success, that they are entitled to steal as much of it as they can.

Not a large cost and jackhammers won't affect them. Tunnel sensors are directional.

LOL - Anyone with a few hundred thousand can simply buy a tourist visa or phoney passport and fly in first class.

Why spend all the money on the backhoe to bust these tunnels? Just plug the US end, vent natural gas into them and light 'em off. Prefferably when the dopers were about halfway through the bloody thing. Kinda like clearing your field of woodchucks.

ROTFLMAO! I'd pay to see that! BOOM!!

"Troops, fence/wall, deportation and employer prison time now!"

The last two solves the problem of illegals, the first two simply pushes the bad guys into using other means, and is not worth The Fence, a billion-dollar boondoggle.

THe reason why this multi-million dollar tunnel was most likely found is the reason why tunneling won't be a great solution for the drug cartels.

You can bet that the billionaire drug godfathers are not down in the dirt with shovels. They are hiring dozens of peons to do that scut work. YOu have to hire dozens of folks in many trades to build such a deep, long and elaborate tunnel.

Any one of those tunnel workers can drop a dime to ICE or the FBI, and get a big $$$ reward.

The longer, deeper and more $$$ the tunnel, the greater the chance it will be compromised. THis is an example of the law of diminishing returns working FOR us for a change.

To you, defending our border in wartime, with the most effective means available, is "the Billion-dollar boondoggle."

Why don't you admit your true agenda? It's transparent to all of us, but if want to keep making a fool of yourself, by all means go ahead.

Every one of your reples, defending keeping the border wide open in wartime, just shows you for who you really are.

"....... and is not worth The Fence, a billion-dollar boondoggle.

Keep repeating it. You may even believe it yourself eventually.

This "billion-dollar boondoggle" will pay dividends in perpetuity. It's a fraction of what Illegals cost California alone for one year.

"Anyone with a few hundred thousand can simply buy a tourist visa or phoney passport and fly in first class."

Not carrying that money in CASH, to obviously be used for nefarious "off the books" payoffs.

Just try carrying a few $100,000 in CASH through U.S. Customs, undeclared, and see what happens when the nice doggie sniffs your luggage.

Handcuff time, in the little interrogation room. "Meet the Joint Task Force, Sr. Delgado."

That's why crooks, smugglers and potential terrorists haul cash across our open borders.

(But you know all this. I realize that you don't believe one word of your bogus arguments. But I'm willing to play, since every reply on this thread means 15 more lurkers will read it.)

You are exaggerating my reply.

Perhaps you may remember the invaders who claimed to have been robbed of $5000 during the Minute Man project last fall?

It appears you are not making an effort at sincere discussion.

For all we know, he is Ricardo Sanchez, posting from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I'm sure that if the internet had existed in 1940, there would have been *Norwegians* posting that all good Norwegians should welcome their *fraternal German brothers* with open arms.

He doesn't believe it, he just can't admit his true agenda.

Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

But it does nothing about the drug smuggling and the "terrorists coming across from Mexico" paranoia.

Hey, let us know when you have gone eyeball to eyeball with the Cartel and the Mexican Army and determined that the potential for terrorists to enter this country is nonexistent. I'd like to see that evidence `cause I personally know of crossing points where BUSLOADS of them could drive across if properly coordinated.

In the meantime I will continue in my "paranoia."

"Perhaps you may remember the invaders who claimed to have been robbed of $5000 during the Minute Man project last fall? "

Nope, but how many were there in the group ? 25? 50 ? a hundred bucks apiece is not a great deal of money.

.... in any case do you think terrorists could scrape up more then 5 grand to sneak into the country ?

I want the fence built for the entire length of the border. There are WAY too many places where someone can walk right in. (such as Neely's crossing) One problem may be the large reservoirs on the Texas border. Maybe someone can figure a way to stop boats from coming across the lakes.

"I'd like to see that evidence `cause I personally know of crossing points where BUSLOADS of them could drive across if properly coordinated."

Yep, and I've personally watched cars crossing the border through the broken fencing - so ?

Since we did not find that tunnel for months, even AFTER we were tipped to it's existance, don't you think it would be more reasonable for terrorists to just walk through one instead ?

If it is just SO easy for foreign terrorists to arrive, just why are they going to Iraq to fight and die rather then Detroit ? HhMmmmmm ?
