But a senior Democratic leadership aide told FOX News on Thursday that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and a majority of Democrats "do not support this action by Kerry and Kennedy. It is not politically advantageous for us."

The Senate's No. 2 Democrat said earlier in the day that while he opposes Alito, he thought it unlikely that Democrats would try to mount a filibuster.

It's not the moonbat base he's worried about. It's about saving Red State Democrats seeking reelection.

John Kerry explains his faux filibuster strategy (to the tune of Carole King's "It's Too Late"):

Stayed in Switzerland all morning just to pass the time
I'm hiding out here
there can be no denying
Left-wing interest groups are raging
And we Democrats can't stop lying

And it's too late baby, now it's too late
Our smears of Alito just didn't make it
The filibuster option has died this time
But that doesn't mean I can't fake it

It used to be so easy pandering to NARAL and gays
No Rush, no 'net, no FOX News
Those were definitely better days
But we've lost our media monopoly
Our power to "bork" has gone away

And it's too late baby, now it's too late
Our smears of Alito just didn't make it
The filibuster option has died this time
But that doesn't mean I can't fake it

Moonbats will love me when I run in 08
Abortionists and pornographers
will finance me at top rate
Alito's kicking our asses
But my faux filibuster will still rate

And it's too late baby, now it's too late
Our smears of Alito just didn't make it
The filibuster option has died this time
But that doesn't mean I can't fake it

Understandable. It will be funny to see moveon direct its resources against Dems, though.

I just checked out an article from The Washington Post about the call for a fair up-or-down vote on Alito and noticed this comment in the blog which followed the article:
how is it a FAIR vote when the numbers are already in your favor?? all the repubs are voting for him... they outnumber dems. it's not a "fair up or down vote" when you're outnumbered.
The Democrats honestly believe that a vote can only be "fair" if they win it. Unreal.

Massachusetts: The Land Without Embarrassment.

Actually, it's our sorry excuses for Senators that have no shame. Several of their constituents, such as yours truly, are in a perpetual state of embarrassment by the new depths of idiocy the Drunk (Kennedy) and the Dork (Kerry) attain.

The 22 votes against Roberts represents about the extent of support Kerry has for his figment filibuster.

For my money. Republican leader Bill Frist is an absolute whimp!!! This vote should be taken tomorrow. If the "traitor/treason" Democrats get their filibuster, then the nuclear option should blow them away. These low life vermin Democrats need their hearts ripped out. Frist is nothing but a weak sister. He just can't take the Democrat scum to task!!! Give me George Allen or Mitch McCcnnell any day over this wuss Bill Frist!!! For goodness sakes, Lord, give these Republicans some backbone!!!

"It is not politically advantageous for us."

This is a very revealing statement: political advantage is ALL that matters to the dems. Not what is right, not what is best for the US, not what is in the best interests of American citizens, not even the more narrow issue of what is best for future Constitutional interpretation. No; all that matters is what is "politically advantageous."
