Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito picked up his second Democratic supporter on Thursday, with Tim Johnson of South Dakota announcing he will vote for the conservative judge to become the nation's 110th justice.

Johnson joins fellow Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska as the only members of their party to announce Senate support for the conservative judge.

They ought to be able to get Pryor of AR to vote YES also. I wonder if the "moderate" Evan Bayh will vote no. If I had to guess I would say Lieberman votes against Alito. He has already alienated the far left enough so he is probably afraid of a serious primary challenge in a few months.

Conrad and Dorgan have voted in favor of banning partial birth abortion so they are not 100% in line with the NARAL crowd. Perhaps there is hope for them but I would not be surprised if they reject Alito.

I thought Bill Nelson of Florida was leaning heavily against. I suspect he is comfortable enough with the polling data that he can throw his base a bone.

Even the wolf tried to dress up like gramma to fool red riding hood...it doesn't change the fact the he's still a wolf.

After the shananagans with Daschle....I wonder if the people of S. Dakota realize this about Timmah?

When are the people of ND and Neb going to wake up and start electing Republican Senators? These two guys know they cannot go back to their voters in their conservative states after voting against Alito. What is the matter with the people that they cannot see what and who the DemocRAT party is. The President sure could use two more conservative senators from ND and Nebraska. I hope the people in those states wake up and see what harm they are doing to the rest of the country by denying us two conservative senators fromt their states.

I laughed out loud at this post on DU from PuppyBismark: Now [sic] matter what we say here, national security is a big issue with the country. Dems keeping showing that they are wimps, have no backbone, will not fight when needed. Why would someone think they would protect the country? If the Dem senators just showed some courage, maybe they would convince more people we could lead in a time of war. But.... No, we have no backbone, we just whine and bitch, but do nothing. Carl Rove is laughing all the way to the next election.

Hmmmm. Maybe a Freeper disguised as PuppyBismark?

Florida is a place where you can still pander left... it may have voted red lately, but just marginally... and will all those blue staters retiring down there, they might be ok. But the true red states, no a democrat alive up for re-election that is going to vote against Alito going into an election year.. it would be political suicide.

Guess that negates the votes of the Maine RINO senators.

I've often wondered the same thing. You'd think people living in "middle America" would have more sense!

Something to consider. In 1996, Tim Johnson won by a 51% to 49% margin. In 2002, he was reelected by 524 votes.

Apparently, Democrats have thrown in the towel. The only question is how many more Red State Democrats will bolt party lines. I predict that Bill Nelson of Florida will also support Alito.

Bill Nelson has already announced his opposition:

Sen. Bill Nelson says he'll oppose Alito's nomination to U.S. Supreme Court

And Jeffords has just announced his opposition as well:
