I'll tell you something red sox fans learned long ago, you never EVER pop the cork until it is over. AAAGH 1986...

I pop the cork when Alito is sitting on the bench.

A Republican Senator should say "I am deeply 'concerned' by some of my esteemed colleagues having made up their minds before the hearings even started. I am greatly 'troubled' that these Democrats have been advancing the talking points of far out left-wing conspiracy theorist groups with no factual basis in reality. I am tremendously 'disturbed' that this highly qualified, unbiased, fair judicial nominee has been attacked for strictly political purposes regardless of his proven track record of adherence to law and the Constitution. And maybe most disgusting of all is their desire to turn these hearings into their own personal campaign pulpits, rather than doing part of the job they were elected to perform and their insistence for ideological judges that only adhere to leftist points of view regardless of the Constitution, our laws or the wishes of the electorate. Today I am ashamed for the Senate body as a whole!"

Reid is apparently waiting for John "Did you know I served in Vietnam?" Kerry to ride to the rescue with his filibuster.

Kerry had his yak fest yesterday. I'm not sure which DEMs still want to stand up and express an opinion and rationale. They've all made their minds.

I'm not sure what pressure Reid is playing too, or what he plans to offer as resolution. He did indicate that it might be possible to obtain a UC agreement to move to the vote, sometime later today. That is, the agreement would come today, on a vote to occur on Monday.

ALITO UPDATE [Byron York]
From a Senate source: It now looks like Democrats have decided they cannot sustain even a non-filibuster filibuster over the Alito nomination. Word is, there will soon be an agreement between the parties on how much more time to allot to the debate, after which there will be a vote on confirmation -- no cloture process needed.

You don't think that Soros, NARAL, Ralph Neas, Planned Parenthood...aren't just raking Reid over the coals right now??

I am sure they are behind Reid's stubbornness in allowing a vote to occur.

this might be another attempt at a soft fillibuster. They will make themselves "unavailable" to vote until late Tuesday.
Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct, delay, delay, delay.

I like him, but...
my back is to the tv, and his voice sounds almost exactly like Algore's!! (shudders)

Glad the senator is speaking sense, though. :-)

Inouye, a democrat representing Hawaii, is speaking next. He is somewhat moderate, and a gang of 14 member. Will be interesting to see where he falls, though if he is being allowed by the democrats to speak first during their debate hour, I imagine he'll announce his opposition to Samuel Alito.

FDR, a dem, put Inouye in an internment camp. Inouye later lost his arm fighting for the USA in the all-Nissei 442nd Regimental Combat Team during WWII. Why this guy doesn't support Judge Alito--and seems perfectly willing to follow the dem "leadership" is really disgusting (IMO).
