Salazar calls Justice Thomas "an abomination"
Rocky Mountain News ^ | January 25, 2006 | Ann Imse

Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., today called current U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas an "abomination" when compared with the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Marshall, the first black appointed to the Supreme Court, was the lead litigator on the historic 1954 school desegregation case and, as a justice, a champion of civil rights. He died in 1993.

Thomas was the second black appointed to the Supreme Court, and he succeeded the retiring Marshall in 1991 after being nominated by the first President George Bush. Thomas' televised confirmation hearings captured the nation's attention when Professor Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment, a charge he denied.

As a justice, Thomas has been a staunch conservative who supports states' rights and opposes abortion and affirmative action.

Salazar's comment about Thomas came during a telephone news conference in which said he would not be part of any possible Democratic filibuster to stop a vote on the confirmation of Samuel Alito as a member of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Salazar must be competing with Chocolate Ray Nagin to see who can come up with the most hilarious and/or obnoxious quotes for the first quarter of 2006. It's close.

What an idiot. First he says that he will not filibuster Alito, then he calls Justice Thomas, who has essentially the same judicial philosophy as Alito does, an "abomination." Does this mean that he thinks Alito is an abomination as well? And if he does think Alito is an abomination, then doesn't he have a duty to use whatever means he has at his disposal to keep Alito off the SCOTUS bench?

Do these guys ever stop and for even a second and actually think about what they're saying? FGS, what the hell has happened to elementary logic and intellectual rigor amongst the politicians these days?

"Salazar is a racist. He hates Thomas because Thomas is black."

He is INCREDITABLEY racist. Why does he only compare Thomas to the other black jurist and not to the others that served on the bench.

Who the hell is Salazar? Is this his sop to the Left for refusing to vote for a filibuster?

That's nice, but he was not a SCOTUS justice at the time. People seem to forget that, once upon the Court, Marshall had one of the most undistinguished tenures of any Supreme justice in American history.

Even by Senate Democrat standards, Ken Salazar is rock-bottom low.

"The Party of Criminals dredged up that liar, Anita Hill"

Kennedy's staff is furiously looking for another Anita Hill, while Teddy drowns his sorrows in the bottle.

I wonder what Salazar would say if Michael Steele were to be elected to the Senate this year?

I may be the only conservative on Free Republic who believes Clarence Thomas is a great S.C. Justice and who also believes that Anita Hill was telling the truth.

Justice Thomas has proved to be a jurist of rare wisdom and unimpeachable integrity. We are very lucky to have him on the court.

There have been some decisions where I have disagreed with Justice Thomas. I don't think I have ever, however, seen a decision by him that I would regard as unreasonable. I don't think I can say that about anyone else on the Court, though Justice Scalia comes close.

Many other judges, it seems, figure out what they want the decision to be and then they rationalize it as best they can. If decision is a complete non-sequitur from their rationale, that doesn't matter. Whether or not there's any real justification, their desired decision will stand.

"They have done everything short of calling for his assassination."

You probably just missed it, I know they talk about the president's death all the time. Scum that they are.

Refresh my memory as to the exact accusations? The only two things I recall were that he made some reference to something looking like a pubic hair (an observation which may not have been typical to someone who didn't look much at such things, but given that pubic hair, facial hair, and top-of-head hair are all different, the observation may have been descriptive) and an overheard reference saying something about a movie "Long Dong Silver", though I don't remember to who he's supposed to have made the reference or what he actually supposedly said).

Depending upon circumstances, I would think such accusations could be technically true and yet at the same time be horribly misconstrued.

Did he really fail with a Dairy Queen franchise? Round here, those puppies are a license to print money. You DO have to work at it though. And be reasonably bright. Oh, it's Democrat Senator Ken Salazar?

Ne-VER-mind.

I encourage everyone, and especially those of you in Colorado, to contact this lowlife's office to register your disapproval of his remarks.

Make that his racist remarks. Confuse 'em with their own "games."
