HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- A male high school student can wear a skirt to school after the American Civil Liberties Union reached an agreement with school officials.
The ACLU announced the deal Tuesday. It will allow a Hasbrouck Heights School senior to wear a skirt to protest the school's no-shorts policy.
The district's dress code bans shorts between Oct. 1 and April 15, but allows skirts, a policy 17-year-old Michael Coviello believes is discriminatory.
"I'm happy to be able to wear skirts again to bring attention to the fact that the ban on shorts doesn't make sense," Coviello said in a statement.
The Hasbrouck Heights superintendent, Joseph C. Luongo, did not return telephone messages left Tuesday seeking comment.

Fascinating. Not content with merely asking the other boys to beat the ever-living snot out of him, he had to fight in court for the right to wear his "Please beat the crap out of me" costume.

What a spectaclar victory for the magnificent geniuses at the ACLU. They must be orgasmically happy and so very, very proud. Anything to destroy our nation, our culture, our morals, etc.

It is comforting to know that the ACLU is looking out for all of us. Between fighting for NAMBLA's rights and now cross dressers, they might be too busy to come to the aid of Ramsey Clark in the "killers" trial.

Hey, I'm not arguing on whether or not they are legally right or wrong here, I just thought it was a ridiculous story, that could have been solved without the ACLU's involvement.

I kinda agree with his reasoning for wearing the skirt (i.e. to point out the inherient idiocy of the school dress code not allowing shorts at all), but I'm sure there's a much better way to fight the thing than cross dressing....

His parents need to teach him about the distinction between public versus private behavior.

The kids can't read but this dress code policy is a far more important issue, I'm glad the ACLU and this kid's moronic parents are looking out for the rest of us.

Im not reading it that way at all.
I think the student is merely being an intentional pain in the ass, breaking the chops of school administrators.
Hes likely a hero to his classmates.

LOL! Actually the reason he did it was because he liked to wear shorts but they are banned during the winter months but girls can wear short skirts all year long and show their legs. The kid is protesting this double standard and is doing it to make a point, I think he is big in athletics too, so he might not be getting the grief a lot of other guys would be.
