Actors having real sex in art-house movies. Erstwhile child star Lindsay Lohan appearing barely clad on the cover of her new album. Teenage girls strolling down Main Street USA attired in ''Porn Star" T-shirts. A bikini-wearing Jessica Simpson bumping and grinding in the music video for ''These Boots Are Made for Walkin.' " College-age women flashing for the ''Girls Gone Wild" video series with nonchalant exhibitionism.
Not too long ago, pornography was a furtive profession, its products created and consumed in the shadows. But it has steadily elbowed its way into the limelight, with an impact that can be measured not just by the Internet-fed ubiquity of pornography itself but by the way aspects of the porn sensibility now inform movies, music videos, fashion, magazines, and celebrity culture.
Braving the inevitable accusations of prudery -- which they reject -- critics such as Paul are sounding the alarm. They say the current hypersexualized climate distorts the attitudes of young people toward sex and relationships. In particular, they contend it has a damaging effect on the self-image of young women and girls, who are confronted with a culture that objectifies them while disguising it as female empowerment.
''Our culture once glamorized cigarette smoking to a large extent. It was promoted by the medical establishment, the film industry, TV," she says. ''But once the evidence of harm began to be disseminated by the government, and by schools and the private sector, the number of people who started smoking went down. My hope is that once people realize the negative effect that pornography has on individuals, their children, their wives, and society as a whole, there will be a mind-set shift."

Yeah, plus she's been on the air for 15 years or something, so she's really 25.
LOL
well she's about 3 months younger than I am so it's all good over here :)
You're right. Can you imagine the beauty that exists between a man and woman, newly married, who have only known each other? Can you imagine what a bond that must create? Especially in this modern world of ours where we can actually choose our mates. Where we can take our time about it. There is very liitle that we have touched, that was once sacrosanct, that we didn't nearly unalterably sully.
The comment to which you refer was bogus. This society hasn't been repressed about sex since at least the 60's. Neither have conservatives.
However, conservatives do encourage self control and restraint which is far different than repression, and as such we will only hurt the cause of pornography.
You get too much of it, get tired of it, and start looking for something more rare that's still interesting?
If fine steak became dirt cheap, people would eat it too often and then become royally sick of it.
When I was a kid, images of attractive scantily-clad women were hard to find, and of course I was highly alert to any chance to find some. Now that it's everywhere, it just doesn't thrill like it used to -- it gets old fast. Don't get me wrong, I still *like* looking at attractive women (clothed or otherwise), but it's not as "woo woo!" as it used to be. As porn has become more available over the years, my interest in it has *dropped*, not gone up.
I'm not the only one to have noticed this, apparently. There's an absolutely classic scene in an episode of "Futurama", where the gang explores the Internet of the year 3000 (full virtual reality, etc.). Fry spots the X-rated section, and heads into it. Later in the episode he comes out, and says, "Well, thanks to the Internet, now I'm bored with sex."
Humvees are a waste of money.
Lite beer is a waste of money.

Pedicures for men are a waste of money.

I know the author choose those words for dramatic effect, but she's damn near 20 years old now and is no LONGER a child.
The author knows that. That's why he said "erstwhile", which means "former".
It is on alternate Thursdays.
I don't know about you, but I never thought of her as a child.
Most of her success came at 17 to 18 years of age. Hardly a child.
Today is Tuesday.
So...hmmm...but it is the first Tuesday of the week, right?
Tuesday and Thursday both begin with T and end with Y.
Y? Because it isn't a waste of money!
Considering what's out there, that FRiend, is a scary thought.
You've given me hope! LOL
Rule #1...never date women who are Democrats or leftists. Even wobbly independents are better looking (and have a semblance of soul).
It's the fashion designers who control what people wear. I used to think as you did, until I realized that our culture has made it nearly impossible for young girls to dress modestly. First of all, where does she even find modest fashions today, certainly not in any of the malls where they shop? Second, she would be ostracized by her peers if she did find them and wear them. Third, young people today have no real way to determine that what they wear is immoral, because they were born into this pit of filth.
I FIRMLY believe that it's the fashion mogels, their saturation marketing strategies and the clothing/retail industry itself who are to blaim for this mess. Lastly, our society has largely taken away parental authority in various ways. It's illegal to 'spank' your child, the Child Social Services can enter if you do, the public schools actually teach our children to report acts of "child abuse", (as in spanking), to authorities. Fatherhood and the traditional family went south with the no-fault divorce laws, FCC laws were downgraded and allowed TV programs to show every form of filth there is. Most kids don't stand a chance of embracing morality growing up in this garbage atmosphere today.
***A bikini-wearing Jessica Simpson bumping and grinding in the music video for ''These Boots Are Made for Walkin.***
I thought that Jessica Simpson was just another character on THE SIMPSONS, which I never watch.
Now I find she is just another blond bimbo.
***Oh, you mean Madame Gutterfly has admirers?***
How much? and are you clean!
LOL!
From what I've seen, Simpson (Jessia) is a hottie. But I have a rule which this picture violates: if you can see the bones in her ribcage while she's just standing there - she's too damn skinny.
