OTTAWA, November 18, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced approval of the conservative-leaning Fox News for Canadian viewers Thursday.
Globe and Mail columnist James Adams described Fox News as "the Canada-baiting house organ of the U.S. right," and "the unofficial official voice of the Bush administration." Adams decried Fox's commentator Bill O'Reilly for his condemnation of Canada's Globe and Mail as "a far-left newspaper."
Adams' keen insight has him headed to become the Canadian version of Tom Oliphant--unemployed.

I think that a year's worth of liberal scandals did a lot to ease the way.
FNC is great, but I don't think it's enough to overturn a government, much as I admire the Washington Managing Editor.
1 year of free-er media would've doen its bit, sure. But let's not stray too far from the biggest reason the libs lost - the corruption scandal. And it wasn't fox news that exposed the scandal, was it?
IMO, it had little affect on how Canadians voted in last night's election. First off, one needs to order the channel if it is to be part of a cable/satellite package. Therefore, I don't believe many Canadians view it. I suspect that in the end, the Conservatives struck a chord with the core values of many here. Throw into the mix the liberal corruption and BS. People are starting to warm up to Harper ... and it will continue.
I think you are quite correct. The scandals had a great deal to do with the change, and additional factor is that Harper & the Tories have been around a while now in their present form and the electorate is giving them a chance to show their stuff.
FNC over the next year or two may very well play an important role in rousing Canadian conservatism and offsetting the influence of the MSM here.

Welcome to FreeRepublic. Who's to say Freepers didn't have a hand in the process?
I would say that FNC probably did not have the affect on the election this article proposes, but I do know it will have a huge impact in the future. If you look at FNC, it was not until the 2000 and 2004 elections where some actual fair and balanced coverage made its way to the people. I expect the same for Canada.
"Throw into the mix the liberal corruption and BS.and BS."
I know very little about Canadian politics. Can you give me some overview or links so I can read about the liberal corruption scandals?
Thanks for any help.

true...but there have been scandals before, perhaps not to this level though. I lived in Quebec for four years and I remember feeling like the only one on the planet who had conservative political leanings...there just wasn't anything to counter the constant liberal bias. I just gotta believe that the presence of Fox News has had an impact.
But I'm not living there...any Canadians care to comment? Are people watching it? Do you think it played a role?
Liberal party corrpution and refusal to deal with it and general arrogance, combined with a tempering of the message of conservatives is what lead to the change in Canada's parliment... Fox News I doubt had much to do with it.
I wondered if O'Reilly had something to do with the trend in Canada. The CBC had been trying to suppress his and Fox message and insulting both. Why are libs everywhere so afraid to let the light of day hit conservative talk? Because its convincing, its the truth, and its common sense. Can't beat that.
what does "bump" mean?
go easy on me...i'm a newbie.
Canada had Conservative governments long before Fox news. It's good to have a diversity of media perspectives, though.
In a nutshell, it was about the Liberals using public funds for political races. fanfan might help. Here's a couple articles I found using "Libranos" in a keyword search

"bump" or "bttt" (bump to the top) moves the article to the top of the replies thread. Welcome aboard. This is a special place. Here's a little Freeper lexicon for some of the terms used here (as well as Freeper lore): http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/673536/posts
