 A GAY soldier is to wed his boyfriend in the first open civil partnership in the armed forces.

Cpl Andy Neal, 32, is currently married to a woman, but has left her to start a new life with his male lover, 27.

The dad-of-three split from his wife and kids soon after returning from war-torn Iraq last year. His civilian gay lover now stays with him in barracks instead. They met in November — after Cpl Neal’s DAD set him up on a blind date.

The infantryman hopes to become the first soldier to have a public gay wedding and live in Army married quarters with his lover.

He said: “It would be the final taboo broken.”

The Ministry of Defence say at least one gay couple have secretly wed already — but none have gone public.

Cpl Neal, stationed in Pirbright, Surrey, joined up in 1991 and wed wife Julie three years later.

He confessed he was gay weeks after the wedding — but kept quiet because of the Army ban on homosexuals at the time.

Cpl Neal said Julie emailed him last April as he fought in Iraq with the Royal Anglian Regiment to tell him she wanted to divorce.

The Army have supported him. He said. “From top to bottom, they have been brilliant.”

2 questions: 1) will it be a military wedding (will the "bride" wear white or pink?) 2) How does a "gay" person have sex with a person of the opposite gender? I would think they just wouldn't be able to do "it" if they were truely gay. That's why I don't buy this, married with 3 kids, then decides to come out BS. He just has an out of control sexuality and is indulging himself , IMO.

Your questions are entirely relevant but I regret that I am not smart enough to provide an answer.  As to the explanation of him being out of control sexually, that may well be the case but I would also wish to suggest that when a society and a culture collectively, through it's laws, indicates that a given activity that was historically regarded as disgusting, unnatural and subhuman is now all of a sudden accepted and acceptable (in the courts, the media and the military at any rate) there will always be those of weak diseased mind and minimal backbone who will quickly and happily descend to the new, lower standard of behavior.  In previous times, such people would be encouraged by societal norms to cast aside such unnatural urges and work toward being a productive member of society.  Alas, when society no longer holds a high standard, the weak, the infirm and the diseased of mind will be the first to collapse as far down the ladder as they are allowed to.

Agreed, although one naturally wonders what lies beneath the pretty exterior in a case like this.  The matter begs the obvious questions of how long did they date before marriage?  How could anyone possibly have not seen such perverted proclivities in a man that she felt she knew well enough to marry?  Why allow three children to be brought forth into the world under such circumstances?

So many questions and I regret that the short article doesn't provide answers.  Hopefully there will be future follow-ups in the press.

Part of a trend, the commies and liberals can't beat the armed forces of the civilized western world, so they do little things like this to destroy the military from within.

Personally, I think we should go back to the old male heterosexuals only in combat and combat support roles. End of story. Then we should build a really solid wall, and tell those who don't like it, to pound their heads against it.

firstly let me say how discusted i am with the way you people think, i am related to andy and he is kindest sweetest guy you could ever meet,his wife knew he was gay, if this was a woman it would be different wouldnt it? all of the family are with him 100% he has had a rough time and has finally found happiness, and regarding his dad introducing them SO WHAT at least he had his dads approval because like andy his boyfriend is gorgeous. if you knew him you would certainly agree with me, he has 3 beautiful children and yes they are his!! please just get a life everyone and let him live his life with his boyfriend happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
