When I was a kid there was a possum being a pest that one of the folks shot. Then they discovered it was a momma possum and had baby possums. So they went and raised the baby possums and let them go. It never made sense to me.

Kid 1: My dad's so great, he gets off work at 5 and he's home by 6 to play with me.

Kid 2: That's nothing, my dad gets off at 5 and he's here at 5:30.

Kid 3: So what? My dad's the best. He works for the government, and he gets off work at 5, and he's home by 3:30 !

Did any of the possums they raised come back to be pests? For every possum you see, there are dozens you will never see and which won't do you any harm.

Actually, their young people are solidly pro-western, and horrified by their government.

I don't know, but I DO know for a fact that there's been a segment of humanity that, for different ideological reasons and advocating different methods, have been activate seeking Armageddon since the Bay of Pigs.

IMO, some of us think life would be easier if we could just go back to the days of illiteracy, contaminated drinking water, travel by horse, rampant disease, short life of backbreaking labor and high infant mortality. Some people think a life like that is "simple". Anyone who's lived without even a COUPLE of modern amenities can tell you for a fact that such a life is not simple OR pleasant.
