Farewell Address to the Nation, The White House, January 11, 1989

I remember being in tears during that entire speech.

Also during the one he gave at the Republican Convention in New Orleans in 1988.

I miss RR.

Because I was responding to the people who were using a thread about the great leader, Ronald Reagan to belittle the great leader, George W. Bush. It's one of my pet peeves around here.

Do you not want to see anything positive about Bush on this thread?

both have their priorities in order...I trust President Bush at least as much as I trusted Mr. Reagan. It's just that I LOVE Ronnie :)

Understood. A great man. A funny man. A wise man. A GOOD man.

We all miss him, and are thankful for the incredibly wonderful things he did for this country when we really needed it.

All I have to say is Jimmy Carter to remind anyone who's forgotten. :)

It occurred to me in 1984, when I saw the flags of the Allied nations being raised over the beaches, that there was at least one flag which should have been there, and was not. That was the flag of Poland, whose soldiers fought for the freedom of Europe as nobly as any. Happily in 1994 Poland was indeed represented at the commemoration. Ronald Reagan played a major part in bringing about that result.

Got my new tagline. ("I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born."- Reagan)

You or I could post a different Reagan quote as our taglines every day of the year and not run out of consummate examples.

Sam Donaldson: “Mr. Reagan, In talking about the recession tonight, you have blamed the mistakes of the past and you’ve blamed Congress. Does any of the blame belong to you?”

Reagan: “Yes, because for many years I was a Democrat.”

Of course, this list only scratches the surface. My favorite, although not really a quip, was at the end of his debate with Carter, "are you better off than you were 4 years ago?" It changed the course of history.

One of my favorite RR quotes:

"So so." That was his reply to this question:

"How did your meeting go with Bishop Tutu?"

Gotta love The Gipper.>>

Reminds me of Churchill, another great quipster. In 1945, when an underling was discussing the Greek Prime Minister of the time, Plasteras, Churchill asked, "Does he have feet of clay, too?"

Sunday morning 300 post BUMP!

"To me, it is not Reagan vs. Bush: it is Reagan and Bush. Each had different challenges, strengths and weaknesses. Both will be remembered, beyond the MSM filter, as great presidents."

The Internet, FreeRepublic, and the death of MSM will all contribute to both Reagan and Bush being seen in a glowing light.
