Never give in, never give up

The news out of Pakistan this week should come as a shot in the arm to Americans: the Bush administration continues to push forward in the war against terrorism on all fronts.

After reportedly receiving a tip that al-Qaida's No. 2 man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, would be visiting a small Pakistani village, the U.S. military swung into action, firing missiles from an unmanned Predator drone aircraft at a terrorist compound in the village.

At this time, intelligence analysts do not believe al-Zawahiri was hit. However, a number of al-Qaida terrorist agents who went in al-Zawahiri's place are believed to be among the dead.

This is good news on a couple of fronts.

For one, it means there are a few less al-Qaida terrorist creeps walking around who can blow up civilian busses or fly airplanes into office towers.

Second, and more importantly, it should reassure all Americans that the Bush administration has not backed down from pursuing the war on terror despite all the criticism, second-guessing and roadblocks and hurdles thrown at Bush by his Democrat Party opponents.

Shamelessly, the far-Left has resorted to the "Blame America First" politics of selling out American interests – just as their liberal forefathers did during the Cold War.

During those days of the fight against the "Red Threat," we were all regaled with commentary from liberal journalists on the national evening news programs (supported by approving sound bytes from their fellow liberal politicians) about how the Soviet system of equality and compassion for all was a model that the rest of the world should emulate.

When the Iron Curtain was ripped down, however, the true reality was exposed: masses of poor, underprivileged people who desperately craved ample supplies of food, heat, jobs and a free flow of information, came running forth seeking the light of freedom and liberty.

We're starting to see the same thing in countries that are being liberated from the shackles of Islamic totalitarianism, enforced under threat of terror.

Rather than sympathize with those who are being oppressed, today's anti-war left has chosen to root for the terrorists.

In an effort to derail the war against terrorism, they cheer on opinion polls showing how majorities of people in various countries disapprove of America's handling of foreign affairs.

The more politically activist liberal Hollywood types make tearful apologies for America's war against terrorism during their acceptance speeches at awards ceremonies.

"George Bush is the real terrorist," they tell us.

The people who follow the ideology of policy gurus like Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Janeane Garofalo and Alec Baldwin have been dealt a bill of goods with such regularity that two plus two now equals five in their Orwellian world.

But, despite their attempts to live in an alternate reality, we cannot give up in fighting the terrorist threat simply because these people just don't "get it."

Rather, we need to do what the Bush administration did this week in that air strike against al-Qaida: Stay on the offensive!

This means politically as well.

President Bush finally saw his poll numbers rebound late in 2005 only after he and other administration officials stuck their noses out and defended their actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and across the globe as part of the fight against terrorism.

And it's about time!

When the radical left called Ronald Reagan a cowboy and a warmonger intent upon nuclear destruction, Reagan calmly smiled and pushed ahead, never giving an inch and always pushing the war against communism forward.

And at the end of the day, despite the massive protests that swamped Reagan when visiting Central America and Europe during the 1980's; despite the constant criticism from Democrat politicians and liberal political commentators; and despite the insistence from Hollywood actors, labor union leaders and the "intellectual class" that Reagan was a danger and a threat to the world – despite all of that – when communism fell and freedom rushed across nations once ruled by tyranny, all those critics suddenly did an about-face and pretended as if they were Reagan's greatest fans all along.

This should serve as a lesson to anyone listening in the Bush White House.

You know in your gut that what you are doing is just, righteous and necessary.

You know that all the critics who second-guess and attempt to undermine your actions haven't got a clue as to how to confront the bloodthirsty terrorists of al-Qaida and their network of affiliated Islamic terrorist groups.

So don't give up or give in. Not to the terrorists in America's military policy, and not to the misguided crybabies in the Democrat Party or on the TV news programs.

For if you stand your ground, and defeat this great terrorist threat, they'll all one day be telling you how they were with you all along.

Absolutely! The tall silent cowboy fights on knowing he is right and the squawking of crows does not bother him.
