The problem with the Church in the US is the Bishops. I've never been impressed with their fiscal acumen or religious leadership. Many are fast becoming shepards with a dwindling flock and diminishing grazing pastures.

Cardinal George is actually one of the more conservative and orthodox bishops in the US, so I'm surprised by his comments. I can only imagine what Mahoney would have to say about this. But George is one of the good ones. He's had a horrid mess to clean up in Chicago after Bernardin, and to my knowledge, he's doing a pretty good job.

The US bishops are horrible. Actually, the USCCB is horrible - because the controlling group is the old-line (gay or gay-friendly) liberal bishops.

Cdl George, btw, is one of the good guys and was simply explaining the situation, not criticizing the Vatican for going ahead with the inspection.

The NEA needs to publish: "Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Pedophilia Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Role of Public School Teacher, Administrator, Coach, or other Support Personnell", to reinforced NEA teaching barring adults "who practise pedophilia and the molestation of children."

I won't hold my breath but I would bet my left foot that there are more sexual predators in the ranks of the NEA as there are in the Catholic church heirarchy.
