As Faulkner is a major interest reread 'Light in August' and think about what Faulkner is saying about those who found in the WBTS/CW a surrogate for a religious crusade with the South being the infidel region. My wife who comes from Sandhill stock in SC commented that in one sentence F was saying 'Hey we know we are screwed up down here , but not anywhere near as screwed up as you people.'

I would add 'Sartorius' to the same list but I understand it was surgically butchered by the publishers before they would print it and I haven't read the full version which I think was titled by F as 'Flags in the Dust'.

Nope, just Pennsylvanian. It is a great state. I never refer to Pennsylvanians as Yankees.

How could they be traitors if the Union was dissolved? How could the United States be "the United States" if the CSA had seceded? Your intemperate allegiance to the victors' history books does you no service. If secession from a Constitution by which only your forefathers agreed to be bound is somehow different in the cases of rule by monarch and rule by mob, you'd better be happy to suck up to Hillary no matter what, because you've given up your right to object to anything she does if elected. Of course you can always move to Swaziland and usurp a monarch there, but not a democratically elected tyrant. God forbid you'd lived in Weimar Germany or Fascist Italy. "Yeah, I know he's killing his opposition, but we elected him, how dare you fight against him, you traitor!"

My husband and I are both from Pa. and heartily agree with that comment, which we have laughed over for years. Whenever we hear a town mentioned that we don't immediately recognize, one of us will say, "Oh, that must be in the Alabama part of Pennsylvania."

The Union WAS NOT dissolved. Renegade treasonous plantation dependent snobs eventually got the point after they got their foppish southern a-sses kicked by an alcoholic General and a po' white trash Commander in Chief.

'White trash' is a curious way to describe Grant. He certainly had come down in the world by 1861. Without the war he would have remained a lost soul mostly dependent on the charity of his snotty brothers and his in laws. But he came from typical middle class stock that happened to live on the north side of the Ohio River (although just barely).

I think the "Alabama" part extends further east then most people assume. For example, I don't know if Berks and Lancaster County are considered Southeast or Southcentral PA, but I like them both alot. They have a nice country, "southern" feel.

Hey now......I'm not all bad.......

I like mint julep's....sipped sparingly (OK, Not so sparingly) while enjoying the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Kentucky Derby.....

One of my trucks sports "Dixie" horns....

And I'd love to move to the great country of Texas (once it secedes), where I'll gladly take my turn guarding our southern border, while sipping sweet tea or a mint julep.

I can't be all bad if I like Mint Julep's....;-)
