As Faulkner is a major interest reread 'Light in August' and think about what Faulkner is saying about those who found in the WBTS/CW a surrogate for a religious crusade with the South being the infidel region. My wife who comes from Sandhill stock in SC commented that in one sentence F was saying 'Hey we know we are screwed up down here , but not anywhere near as screwed up as you people.'
I would add 'Sartorius' to the same list but I understand it was surgically butchered by the publishers before they would print it and I haven't read the full version which I think was titled by F as 'Flags in the Dust'.
