Salazar doubts Alito would be unbiased
The Pueblo Chieftan ^ | Jan 19, 2006 | Peter Roper

Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., all but said he would oppose the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, listing his continuing concerns about Alito's previously expressed views on the power of the presidency, as well as major civil rights decisions by the Supreme Court in the 1960s.

In a telephone press conference, Salazar repeated that he had not made a final decision on Alito, but went on to express his doubts about the federal appeals court judge. In particular, Salazar said he questioned whether Alito would set aside his personal political views when making court decisions.

Saying he was reviewing Alito's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Salazar said he was concerned about Alito's support for a "unitary" or broad view of presidential power as well as his previously expressed disagreement with major civil rights decisions made by the Supreme Court in the 1960s

OK, Freepers. Those of you in red states with Dem. Senators need to get on the phones. The red-state dem. senators are evidently feeling no need to support Alito. Put on the pressure.

Salazar said he questioned whether Alito would set aside his personal political views when making court decisions.

Of course, he has absolutely no concerns about the liberals on the Court who have been doing that for years and years.

The Dems are sickening and completely transparent.

He didn't run as a conservative. He ran as a nice guy, and was lucky to be opposed by a nitwit.

I thought he ran on saying he would give W's judicial nominees a fair shake. I guess that's not necessarily conservative, but rather fair. But he's not really giving them a fair shake, he's voting on party lines (as we might have expected).

Let's see if he makes the leap from "concerns" to exceptional circumstance. Salazar tried being the person that got elected for a while, but now he is just another rat crawling in the sludge.

Next time he will have a liberal record to compare with a real conservative. Is Colorado completly full of refugees from California yet?

He did. He's revealed himself as a party doormat mouthpiece. I seriously doubt he'll be re-elected; he has no record of his own beyond mouthing the party line.

The R's have got to put up a credible candidate, though. Both Pete Coors and his primary opponent, Bob Schaeffer, were not viable.

Wouldn't be surprised to see somebody like John Suthers run for it....

I disagree. Colorado is no longer a red state. It's purple. We have a Republican governor that is siding more and more with liberal issues. The legislature is Democrat. Colorado voters knew what they were getting in Salazar; this is obvous because they voted in a Democrat legislature at the same time. More and more blue-staters are moving in and overpowering the native red-state vote. Also, Colorado Republicans are content to fight each other and let the Democrats pick up the debris.

Well, then, let's get on with it. Where's the vote? Let the voting begin.

Of course, when an emminently qualified jurist and scholar reads the U.S.Constitution and finds that it does NOT guarantee the right to an abortion as a federal matter, that person is involved in "personal politics". The left got abortion forced on all of America through its manipulation of the courts and knows damned well that should Roe be reversed, many of the various state legislatures will be subject to the will of the governed. That ain't the kind of "choice" they want.

Salazar says that James Dobson is the Anti-Christ. He obviously has little grasp on reality.

"Salazar says that James Dobson is the Anti-Christ."

It is downright terrifying to see the kind of whacko moonbats that get elected to the United States Congress and Senate these days.

Many of them, really, should be drooling on the back ward of a state mental hospital somewhere.
