7- Pakistan hunts for pro-Taleban clerics who were at Al Qaeda dinner, 20 Jan

Reportedly killed (by at least one major news source):

1,3,4Abu Ubaidah al-Misri (Masri?)

Egyptian Dep. cmdr of AQ in Kunar, Afghanistan

1Marwan As-Suri

Syrian AQ cmdr in Pakistani region adjacent to Kunar

1,5Abu Khabab al-Masri (Midhat Mursi)

Egyptian AQ bombmaking and chem. weapons expert

1,4Khalid Habib

?? AQ operations chief in Pak/Afghanistan

1,3,5Abdul Rehman al-Misri al-Magrabi

6Moroccan AQ media chief, Zawahiri’s son-in-law

6Mustafa Osman

Egyptian Associate of al-Zawahiri

Reportedly invited to party (fate unknown):

1Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi

Iraqi Liaison between AQ Pakistan and Zarqawi

1Ayman al-Zawahiri

Egyptian AQ deputy commander

2,7Maulana Faqir Mohammed

Pakistani Pro-Taliban cleric (suspected of moving bodies)

2,7Liaqat Ali

Pakistani Pro-Taliban cleric 7(suspected of moving bodies)

4U.S. officials have said that four to eight al Qaeda-affiliated "foreigners" were killed in the attack, including some Egyptians. The bodies were quickly removed by accomplices and buried elsewhere, knowledgeable sources have said…Pakistani officials have said that "four or five" foreign fighters were killed in the strike, along with 18 civilians, including five children and five women.

Coop comment: 18 seems to keep popping up, as in 18 “innocent” civilians. Five women and five children can be reasonably assumed to be innocents, leaving us with eight likely terrorists and their supporters. So you can see why the U.S. officials keep coming out with up to eight killed.

5Friday's strike was the third believed to have been carried out since May by CIA-operated Predator drone aircraft in Pakistani tribal lands near the Afghan border. Abu Hamza Rabia, an Egyptian said to have been al Qaeda's No. 3 commander, was killed in December, and a known al Qaeda bombmaker, Haitham al-Yemeni, was killed in May.

Update: the clerics [Mohammed and Ali] returned to lead funeral rites for the victims. Then they came back again to lead a large protest against the allegedly CIA-led sortie.

Mohammed and Ali mobilized around 8,000 armed men to fight US forces after its invasion of Afghanistan following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States, Pakistani officials said.

The two are already wanted for harboring terrorists, and the government has outlawed their Islamic group, Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi,
or Movement for the Enforcement of Islamic Law. In May last year, security forces raided their homes in Hewai, arresting at least a dozen suspected terrorists from Uzbekistan.

LOL, I just spent the last thirty minutes trying to find Damadola on those maps! I should learn to read. Yes, Damadola is NE of those maps, almost 150 miles! (This fever really has me dingy.)

Dog, have you found any spelling variations for "Jangzai"? I'm still trying to locate it on the GEO-Names data base.

Yes Jack is back!!

I wish we had someone like him in Afghanistan, or maybe we do. :)

We have full units of folks who make Jack Bauer look like a gifted amateur. Now, just where do you think Hollywood got Jack Bauer's moves from?

Coop, and all:

Bill Roggio over at Threatswatch is citing Dan Darling over at Regnumcrucis as follows:

Abu Khabab al-Masri (WMD committee head) Abd Rahman al-Masri al-Maghribi (al-Zawahiri’s son-in-law, al-Qaeda commander)
Abu Ubeidah al-Masri (Kunar operations chief)
Marwan al-Suri (Waziristan operations chief)
Khalid Habib (southeastern Afghanistan commander)
Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi (southwestern Afghanistan commander)

http://inbrief.threatswatch.org/2006/01/two-more-alqaeda-commanders-be/

AND

http://regnumcrucis.blogspot.com/2006_01_15_regnumcrucis_archive.html#113764992010408132

Roggio, I think correctly, notes that Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi was invited, but not necessarily reported killed.

Dan Darling's list does not include Mustafa Osman, but your's does. You have Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi as invited, but not reported.

That info is thanks to Dan Darling, with hat tip to Bill Roggio.

Actually, Coop's list is more comprehensive than Dan Darling's since he has all the citations and links. I don't know whether Roggio posts or lurks around here, but I think he'd find threads like this one useful.

Dan Darling used to post here once in a while, but it has been a long time since I've seen anything from him. He's busy doing other things now I suppose.

You have Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi as invited, but not reported.

Thanks for the rundown, Cap. Are you saying Dan (and/or Bill) is reporting al-Iraqi as gone to his virgins? I don't believe I've run across such a report yet.

He last graced us with his presence (posting, anyways) on Valentine's Day '05.

Never mind. I looked for myself using the links you graciously provided. :-)

From Threatswatch:
Mr. Darling includes Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi as one of those reported killed, however Newsday states that while he was invited to the dinner, “it was not clear whether Al-Iraqi attended and there was no report that he was missing.”

I respect Dan's opinion greatly, but until I see another source I'm leaving al-Iraqi as "fate unknown."

If you go to regnumcrucis you will see that Dan Darling is writing that someone, somewhere in the news is reporting al-Iraqi as killed, but he provides no links.

As Roggio points out, Newsday reports that the guy was invited to the jihadi party, but is not reported as missing (does anybody actually do such thing? 'My jihadi buddy Mustafa is missing, has anyone seen him?').

(does anybody actually do such thing? 'My jihadi buddy Mustafa is missing, has anyone seen him?').

Short answer: Yes. But that's going to be seen more in the intel arena as opposed to news reporting.

Thanks. I tried Dan's site but had no luck getting on.

Folks, here's an article only a few hours old, with some excellent new (to me, anyways) info:

PESHAWAR - Pakistani agents continued their hunt for two pro-Taleban clerics who dined with top Al Qaeda operatives the night of last week’s US missile strike, hoping to determine who was killed in the attack.

Pakistani officials say Faqir Mohammed and Liaqat Ali were likely responsible for burying - and concealing - the bodies of as many as four Al Qaeda operatives killed in the US assault that targeted, but missed, the network’s No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri.

Mohammed reportedly returned near the scene of the attack in Pakistan’s tribal region two days later to lead an anti-US protest.

“The government is actively hunting for them,” a senior government official with high-level access to information on the Damadola attack said on Thursday.

“Once we have them in custody, more will definitely be revealed” about that night, said the official

...

In May last year, security forces raided [Mohammad and Ali's] homes in Hewai, arresting at least a dozen suspected terrorists from Uzbekistan. They were not present then.

...The News, a widely circulated Pakistani national newspaper, quoted Mohammed as saying earlier this week that he “would offer refuge” to al-Zawahri “if he made a request.” “It is my wish to meet al-Zawahri because he is a soldier of Islam,” it quoted him as saying.

Well, a little open-source reporting likely contributed to us crashing Mohammed's little dinner party. LOL! I'm happy to note that at least two different articles this morning are now reporting only 13 civilians killed and 4-5 terrorists. As opposed to the nearly constant bleating of some terrorists and 18 innocents! I think the final tally will show ten women and children killed (and I do have sympathy for them, I really do) and ten dirt-bag terrorists and associates assuming room temperature.
