7- Pakistan hunts for pro-Taleban clerics who were at Al Qaeda dinner, 20 Jan
|
Update: the clerics [Mohammed and Ali] returned to lead funeral rites for the victims. Then they came back again to lead a large protest against the allegedly CIA-led sortie.
Mohammed and Ali mobilized around 8,000 armed men to fight US forces after its invasion of Afghanistan following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States, Pakistani officials said.
The two are already wanted for harboring terrorists, and the government has outlawed their Islamic group, Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi, or Movement for the Enforcement of Islamic Law. In May last year, security forces raided their homes in Hewai, arresting at least a dozen suspected terrorists from Uzbekistan.
Jangzai(where the landmine killed two) is southwest/south of Damadola...heading in the general direction of Peshawar..
By how much? Got a link so I take a peek?
See link above...boy do those maps bring back memories..
LOL, I just spent the last thirty minutes trying to find Damadola on those maps! I should learn to read. Yes, Damadola is NE of those maps, almost 150 miles! (This fever really has me dingy.)
Dog, have you found any spelling variations for "Jangzai"? I'm still trying to locate it on the GEO-Names data base.
No Boot I used what you sent my in the freepmail and located it using Google Earth.....another town has just entered the mix...place called Matta,Pakistan...5 terrorists arrested there...I'll ping you to the thread.
I wish we had someone like him in Afghanistan, or maybe we do. :)

Coop, and all:
Bill Roggio over at Threatswatch is citing Dan Darling over at Regnumcrucis as follows:
Abu Khabab al-Masri (WMD committee head) Abd Rahman al-Masri al-Maghribi (al-Zawahiris son-in-law, al-Qaeda commander)
Abu Ubeidah al-Masri (Kunar operations chief)
Marwan al-Suri (Waziristan operations chief)
Khalid Habib (southeastern Afghanistan commander)
Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi (southwestern Afghanistan commander)

AND

Roggio, I think correctly, notes that Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi was invited, but not necessarily reported killed.
Dan Darling's list does not include Mustafa Osman, but your's does. You have Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi as invited, but not reported.
Wow, that's a pretty good nights work.
That info is thanks to Dan Darling, with hat tip to Bill Roggio.
Actually, Coop's list is more comprehensive than Dan Darling's since he has all the citations and links. I don't know whether Roggio posts or lurks around here, but I think he'd find threads like this one useful.
Dan Darling used to post here once in a while, but it has been a long time since I've seen anything from him. He's busy doing other things now I suppose.
Thanks for the rundown, Cap. Are you saying Dan (and/or Bill) is reporting al-Iraqi as gone to his virgins? I don't believe I've run across such a report yet.
He last graced us with his presence (posting, anyways) on Valentine's Day '05.
From Threatswatch:
Mr. Darling includes Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi as one of those reported killed, however Newsday states that while he was invited to the dinner, it was not clear whether Al-Iraqi attended and there was no report that he was missing.
I respect Dan's opinion greatly, but until I see another source I'm leaving al-Iraqi as "fate unknown."
If you go to regnumcrucis you will see that Dan Darling is writing that someone, somewhere in the news is reporting al-Iraqi as killed, but he provides no links.
As Roggio points out, Newsday reports that the guy was invited to the jihadi party, but is not reported as missing (does anybody actually do such thing? 'My jihadi buddy Mustafa is missing, has anyone seen him?').
Short answer: Yes. But that's going to be seen more in the intel arena as opposed to news reporting.
Thanks. I tried Dan's site but had no luck getting on.
His picture will appear on goat milk cartons.
Try to stay away from the key words on this thread, 'kay? Thanks.
Whatever you say boss.
PESHAWAR - Pakistani agents continued their hunt for two pro-Taleban clerics who dined with top Al Qaeda operatives the night of last weeks US missile strike, hoping to determine who was killed in the attack.
Pakistani officials say Faqir Mohammed and Liaqat Ali were likely responsible for burying - and concealing - the bodies of as many as four Al Qaeda operatives killed in the US assault that targeted, but missed, the networks No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahri.
Mohammed reportedly returned near the scene of the attack in Pakistans tribal region two days later to lead an anti-US protest.
The government is actively hunting for them, a senior government official with high-level access to information on the Damadola attack said on Thursday.
Once we have them in custody, more will definitely be revealed about that night, said the official
...
In May last year, security forces raided [Mohammad and Ali's] homes in Hewai, arresting at least a dozen suspected terrorists from Uzbekistan. They were not present then.
...The News, a widely circulated Pakistani national newspaper, quoted Mohammed as saying earlier this week that he would offer refuge to al-Zawahri if he made a request. It is my wish to meet al-Zawahri because he is a soldier of Islam, it quoted him as saying.
