Stolen Valor Act of 2005
The Library of Congress - Bills Resolutions ^ | 2005 | Congressman John Salazar

Posted on 01/18/2006 8:24:39 PM PST by Calpernia

In July, Congressman Salazar introduced HR 3352 - the Stolen Valor Act of 2005. His bill aims to expand federal law enforcement's ability to prosecute individuals who claim to have received military medals they did not earn.

These imposters degrade the meaning of medals earned in service to our nation and sometimes use their "standing" as a medal recipient to commit further fraud and more dangerous crimes.

Congressman Salazar’s Stolen Valor bill already has bipartisan support. In the first week alone, more than 50 Members of Congress signed up to help defend the honor of our veterans.

And very interesting that Murtha insisted the Commandant hand one out for an accident.

Not only do I still have my 214 filed at home, but I have my Purple Heart orders on my wall beside other military awards.

Wonder if that means that John eFn Kerry is in DEEP DO DO?!!

No, it will mean nothing to them. They were awarded the medals – even if they did not meet the accepted criteria. This bill is to punish those who simply buy the medals and start bragging on them.

They were officially awarded? I didn't know that.

And what is the penalty for throwing medals over the fence at the US Capital and falsely claiming they were earned by the thrower?

Has Congressman Murtha weighed in on this bill? Or is he too busy stealing valor from Iraq war vets by telling everyone how wrong the war is?

"Along with John Kerry, John Murtha comes to mind. It is ironic how Democrats seem to pick tainted ex-vets to represent them as they try to take the high ground militarily."

There is method to that Madness, they expect to be attacked, and get to complain when they are.

The flip side is that if they aren't, it's an easy win for them.

Let's make their lives hard and make them whine.

I've been reading back through all the articles. Are you sure they were officially awarded? Or is that what has been being challenged this entire time in reference to Kerry and Murtha?

I believe it's because so few untainted ex-vets are democrats.

They were officially awarded – but in Hanoi John’s case he had to ask, beg and plead for the awards. Even his story about the “wounds” shows they weren’t of a Purple Heart nature.

" I respect all the very good work you do Cal, but this is a minor matter"

I have to agree with you. Let the veteran's groups "out" these people if it's that important. Congress legislates a new crime and we have to fund the enforcement. Just getting the records to prove a case may be a problem in many cases as some of them were destroyed in a fire in St. Louis years ago as I found out when I requested copies of mine.

Murtha and Kerry. Coming time to put-up or shut-up. (Though I think this is codified in law already.)

PING every list you have!

Write every real Conservative Senator and Representative.

Spread the word far and wide.

This is a no brainer, conservatives control Congress
and the White House

"From Ray Funderburk, MOPH

The greatest threat to the sanctity and significance of the Purple Heart comes from the medal's easy availability. Anyone can buy one at flea markets, pawnshops or on the Internet, where Web sites offer the decoration, no questions asked, for as little as $35. An accompanying certificate on onion skin parchment and personalized with your name and any rank you choose costs about $25.

Such commerce in the symbols of American courage and sacrifice would be outlawed by a measure spearheaded last July by Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo.

His "Stolen Valor Act" would make it a federal crime to falsely wear the Purple Heart and other top military decorations, or to even list them on a resume if they were not officially earned.

But the proposed bill now sits in the House Judiciary Committee, and its fate remains unclear.
"We're waiting for the committee to act," said Salazar

Any Republican or Democrat politicians who don't get this bill passed is as guilty as the phonies that this bill targets.

The Swift Boat Vets already proved, beyond a doubt,
that hanoi kerry's 1st Purple Heart is fraudulent.

A US Attorney General can get ALL of hanoi kerry's
records and once and for all prove that the
Swift Boat Vets were accurate and true.

All that has to be done is to get this bill passed and signed into law now, before the '06 election.

Since hanoi kerry will be under indictment he'll
have to sit out the '06 election for his illegal seat
in the US Senate.

AND the best part is that it is a Democrat sponsored
bill that will his downfall.
