US moves diplomats out of Europe

Rice said the US must be "where the action is"
The US is to reduce the number of its diplomats posted to Europe, and will send more to other countries, including China, India, Nigeria and Lebanon.
"America must begin to reposition our diplomatic forces around the world," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday.
She said it was an anomaly that the US had the same staff levels in Germany as in India, more than 10 times the size.
She said the redeployment would help foster democratic and economic change.
Ms Rice told students at Georgetown University that President George Bush's administration was committed to "transformational diplomacy".
The philosophy was an attempt "to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world," she said.
"Transformational diplomacy is rooted in partnership, not in paternalism," she said, adding that it was based on "doing things with people, not for them."
Although the state department has 7,440 diplomats in foreign countries, there are nearly 200 world cities of more than a million people in which the United States has no formal diplomatic presence, she said.
"This is where the action is today, and this is where we must be."
"This is where the action is today, and this is where we must be."
This is where the action will be in 2008. And this is where you must be.
Run , Condi, Run.
Well, she's right, the action sure isn't in Europe these days...
Unless you're fond of slow, socialist train wrecks.
Valuing pomp and symbolism above all as they do, the Eurons will surely take offense at this slight, and lodge a stern diplomatic protest.
Here's an example.
This is a perfect first step whose overall goal is to give the EU one vote in the UN, one vote in the security council, one vote in NATO.
The people in the State Department are just going to squeal. This hits at their soft life.
This is very significant. We are no longer going to waste resources in a group of countries that are economically, culturally and politically dying. Remember last year around this time when the defense department announced the closings of some US bases in Europe? No less significant. The next step is going to be US businesses pulling out, as the rhetoric of war between Europe and militant Islam increases.
We have 85-90 MILLION Americans with German ancestry, madam Secretary.
If they go to visit the old country as most do in life, they would like embassies around in case of a problem. We still have several military bases, hospitals there too.
I imagine that
even State Department scum
would rather be sent
to, say, Hong Kong than,
say, Belgrade. After all, scum
live for the good life . . .
I bet they don't redeploy the same people.
What is "bree" and what does "Waaaaah" mean?
If the GOP wants to lose they will run a moderate like Rudy G or Condi and I will know for sure the fix is in.
What fix?
I must have missed the part about closing embassies.
