Aggressive "Begging" in Boston
1/18/06 | minus_273

There was a thread on FR the other day about people fleeing MA. Someone posted this comment about pan handlers in Boston demanding money. That had never happened to me until yesterday. Folks, this is what liberalism is all about.

I ended up staying a bit later at work to finish up some stuff before I headed home. By the time I left, the usual traffic going home was long gone. I also take the T (the public transport here) to go to and from work. The particular bus i take to get to the subway is the Silver line which also goes near Roxbury and Dorchester.

When I got on the bus, I realized I stuck out like a sore thumb. An asian guy in a coat and a fedora didn't really fit in. As soon as I got on, this idiot comes up to me and asks me for money. I say no and he pauses a minute and says "I have no money, what am I supposed to do?" . I tell him to get a job. Then he says the following which amazed me, " This is America, you have to give and take and if you don't give me your money, I'm gonna have to take it. That 's the way it works. You see all these other people on the bus, there not going to help a person like you"
I tell him he's not getting anything from me and he sits down on a seat near me then staggers off the bus at the next stop. Simply amazing.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

This is the Liberal mantra.

While in Boston on business, a panhandler came up to me and the boss and asked "Hey, can you spare a quarter?".

Without missing a beat, my boss retorts "Do you have change for a $20?"

The bum stood there with the look of a deer in the headlights.

"Err..yes?"..well, that answer wasn't gonna work.

"Err..no?"..well, that answer wouldn't work either.

The part that made it funny was the 1/32th second it took him to come up with the line. Caught the guy without an answer.

Absoultely disgusting.

But not surprising.

Be lucky you were not charged with a "hate crime" for suggesting that poor people work for things.

If he had tried something and you had defended yourself, your life would be over. The libs would have hounded you forever.

Why do so many want our country to commit suicide? Sad.

As I'm sure you know, the murder rate in Boston has gone way up, and the number of convictions has gone way down. Very few people will admit to witnessing a crime. They're scared.

And, of course, self-defense is harder with the MA gun laws being what they are.

Stay safe.

I still maintain that had Boston shut down every Dunkin Donuts during the Big Dig, it would have been done in half the time and under budget.

You should have said, "Hello, my name is Bernhard Goetz. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Mr. X had a similar exchange at a car dealership in Dartmouth MA in Oct. 2004. The black kid who did the auto detailing told him that if Kerry/Dems won, "we blacks get the checks". The former Beloved laughed in the kid's face and told him that it's better to be writing the checks than getting them. The young black kid didn't understand that concept at all. If he had an education and a solid background in life(info gleaned over the hour it took to clean the car), this smart young man would be driving a luxury car, not wiping one with a rag.

if you don't give me your money, I'm gonna have to take it

I'd have had the driver radio this in, so that some Boston po-lice could waste some time with it. Get enough of these calls, and they might consider a crackdown.

When I lived back east and had to interface regularly with indigents - I found the best approach for me anyway was to beat them to the punch.

If some obviously vagrant individual started that meandering "I'm gonna pretend I'm not a bum and ask in a way he can't say no", I'd wait until just before they said something as then say "Hey - can I bum a cigarette?".

Worked every time.

That's a great bumper sticker I saw once: "Driver carries no cash. He's married." :)
