Today Show Portrays Hillary Plantation Remark Putting Her on Offense, Not Defense

When Republican leader Trent Lott made racially insensitive remarks, the MSM was immediately flooded with speculation as to whether he could survive in his political leadership post.

But when Hillary Clinton did the same, the Today show portrayed her as going on the offense, not being on the defense.

You might have imagined Today's graphic for this morning's segment would have read along the lines "Hillary Feeling the Heat". Imagine again. In fact it read "Off and Running? Hillary Attacks GOP". Offense, not defense.

Today also conveniently omitted mentioning that her 'plantation' comment was made in church. Even the New York Times was constrained to acknowledge that her remarks came at "the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem."

It would also appear that NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell is a proud graduate of the Bob Woodward School of Political Mind-Reading. Mitchell informed us that Hillary's comment was "ad-libbed." And just how would Andrea know that?

RNC chairman Ken Mehlman was given five seconds to criticize Clinton, but Mitchell undercut the message by describing Republicans as "pouncing on her remark." In Andrea's world, there was nothing inherently objectionable about what Hillary said, only in the way it was exploited by those tigers of the GOP.

Despite Hillary's underlining to the Harlem audience that "you know what I mean" by her plantation remark, former Clinton aide Lisa Caputo managed to keep a straight face while claiming "It's not about a race issue. I think we all know that." Right.

Black NYC Congressman Greg Meeks was then brought in to second Hillary's notion.

Finally, NBC political analyst Charlie Cook was heard from, hauled in to let Hillary off the hook: "I think it was probably just saying something that she thought the people in the audience would nod and agree with like all politicians do."

That's probably what Trent Lott was thinking too when he made his ill-considered remark. It cost him his leadership job. But with help from her MSM friends, Hillary's comments are seen as a savvy way to launch a presidential campaign.

Just a preview of the kid-gloves treatment the MSM will give Hillary in 08. They will fawn over her. We need to start defeating her now.

I keep saying the same. I keep getting flames by those who poo poo her and say she can't win.

In a way, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing them rush to replace the Kerryites on the therapists' couches after the '08 election. But, in reality, I'm not sure this Nation would survive another 8 year Clinton administration, as we are still suffering the devastating effects from the last one. Consider how difficult it has been to get ole Bill off center stage during and after his terms in office. Imagine in 2016 trying to pry HC out of the Oval Office -- after she has had 8 years of control of the FBI, the NSA, the IRS, etc.

As you say, we need to start defeating her now. Treat her lightly and poo poo her candidacy, etc., and those on the right may regret the years following the current Bush term.

HC has not said anything unscripted since her baking cookies remark. She isn't that stupid. Her remarks were intentional and scripted. She probably even had a poll done beforehand to test the reaction. She knew, of course, that the left/msm/Dems would cover anything she said.

Getting a free pass by the press does nothing to build your skill in dealing with the general public....

Why does this woman need to deal with the public? If you ask her a difficult or inflattering question you get roughed up by her Dragoons, and audited by the IRS.

RELEASE THE FULL BARRETT REPORT

"If Mitchell really didn't know, why did she say it?"

Maybe Andrea ad-libbed it? :)

DNC pi$$-boy... Chris Matthews said last night that “I guess she(Hillary) learned not to pick a slow, news day to make a gaffe... nothing was happening at all.”

Can one imagine if she were running 20 yrs. ago, MSM would have a free ride, lying to the American people with little or no fallout. Today, only a minority of people are fooled by these antics.

Not to flame you here, but, I do think she can win. She can't win in a fair fight... since when do the Clintons ever fight fair?

"As you say, we need to start defeating her now."

Yup. I know independents who will vote for her only b/c she's a woman and "its time". Thats maybe 25% of the swing vote. It will be worse if she manages to skip the primary vetting and gets "drafted".

"As one report said, responses to her comment was 'muted'."

It would be more accurate to say the MSM muted the response.

I was pleasantly surprised at the roasting of both Ray "Chocolate" Nagin and Aunt Jemima Clinton on CNN's Anderson Cooper show last night. (I can't take Greta.) Of course, they had an incoherent Reverand Jackson on to defend both racist remarks, which made them even more objectionable, but they had a jouralist from NO and a very well-spoken black Republican on that scored all the points.

You may be right. That line doesn't help her though.
I don't think she's that careful. Rush plays her speeches screeching at the crowd in all her shrillness. People like that are hard to script.
She could have seen a sea of black faces and thought about plantations.

It's scary to think about who the hell they think is watching and approving of this carpetbaggers antics. The MSM has a very warped perception about who are the "Main Stream" Americans.

Let's hope Hillary has a lot of time for unscripted off the cuff remarks--especially those delivered in her inimitable screech. They are golden.

"Consider how difficult it has been to get ole Bill off center stage during and after his terms in office."

Not to mention the 1988 Dim Convention. He was treated as a joke after that speech, but it turned out the joke was on us. You won't be getting any flames from me. Hitlery scares me and we must take her seriously.

This is enough to make me pull my hair out. If anybody is running a plantation, it is the freaking democrats, who have taken advantage of black Americans and enslave them to their party, which in turn does nothing to help them help themselves.

I get flamed for saying Hillary isn't the problem. Her candidacy is nothing more than an end run around the Constitution("Two for the price of one", remember?). Everyone who pulls the lever for her will be saying to themselves "We know who'll REALLY be running things (wink wink)". (start "Jaws" theme here) Herr Slickmeister, the serial molester, will be EVERYWHERE in '08. Just why do you think they've bothered to stay married, hmmmm? They don't even live together-a fact the media will never mention. This is, therefore, a VERY real danger.
