When Republican leader Trent Lott made racially insensitive remarks, the MSM was immediately flooded with speculation as to whether he could survive in his political leadership post.
But when Hillary Clinton did the same, the Today show portrayed her as going on the offense, not being on the defense.
You might have imagined Today's graphic for this morning's segment would have read along the lines "Hillary Feeling the Heat". Imagine again. In fact it read "Off and Running? Hillary Attacks GOP". Offense, not defense.
Today also conveniently omitted mentioning that her 'plantation' comment was made in church. Even the New York Times was constrained to acknowledge that her remarks came at "the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem."
It would also appear that NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell is a proud graduate of the Bob Woodward School of Political Mind-Reading. Mitchell informed us that Hillary's comment was "ad-libbed." And just how would Andrea know that?
RNC chairman Ken Mehlman was given five seconds to criticize Clinton, but Mitchell undercut the message by describing Republicans as "pouncing on her remark." In Andrea's world, there was nothing inherently objectionable about what Hillary said, only in the way it was exploited by those tigers of the GOP.
Despite Hillary's underlining to the Harlem audience that "you know what I mean" by her plantation remark, former Clinton aide Lisa Caputo managed to keep a straight face while claiming "It's not about a race issue. I think we all know that." Right.
Black NYC Congressman Greg Meeks was then brought in to second Hillary's notion.
Finally, NBC political analyst Charlie Cook was heard from, hauled in to let Hillary off the hook: "I think it was probably just saying something that she thought the people in the audience would nod and agree with like all politicians do."
That's probably what Trent Lott was thinking too when he made his ill-considered remark. It cost him his leadership job. But with help from her MSM friends, Hillary's comments are seen as a savvy way to launch a presidential campaign.

Hitlery is inevitably heading towards her own version of Howard Dean's scream. Enjoy the ride.
Great observation and excellent question. Inquiring minds want to know...And I'll add one more: If Mitchell really didn't know, why did she say it?
And a question for the program's advertisers: Are you all NUTS?!?

Thanks for giving us the news, but please spray yourself with a good dose of Lysol to get any Today Show contamination off.
Hitlery is inevitably heading towards her own version of Howard Dean's scream. Enjoy the ride. That's right. Getting a free pass by the press does nothing to build your skill in dealing with the general public. It just puts off the inevitable day of reckoning.
The Queen of Darkness is always offensive.
Fox news at 7:00 am. was 180 degrees of Today show about the comment .
I take my precautions internally, popping a daily Prilosec to ward off acid reflux!
Just a preview of the kid-gloves treatment the MSM will give Hillary in 08. They will fawn over her. We need to start defeating her now.
First reports were that Her Hindass' remarks were in answer to a question. There was no question.
Notice the 'coverage' too.
Expect more of that 'coverage' every time HC screws up in her campaign for the White House.
As one report said, responses to her comment was 'muted'.
The fawning MSM will definite 'cover' HC -- as in 'cover up for'.
It must be nice to have the media as your lap dog, cleaning up every mess you step into. Thanks for the good job you do.
what a great report! thanks!!!!
If a republican had made such a loaded, race pandering, insensitive, inflammatory remark, you can bet Katie would have been at her foot stomping, finger pointing, irate to the max, attack line of questioning best.
I think the way the MSM is protecting Hillary on this, fully exposes their intent to cover her ample ass, no matter how outrageous she becomes to make herself into a presidential candidate.
Al Sharpton was willing to go on HARDBALL and flat out lie about her not being in a church when she made the Plantation remark. Imagine a republican congressman getting away with such a lie. But anything in the defense of Hillary is MSM approved.
According to Mitchell, the comment was unscripted.
Off the cuff, spontaneous remarks are the best way to know what and how a person thinks.
Sir Edmund Hillary Clinton is in her '08 sedan chair
LOCOmotion [a sedan chair must be carried along] provided by:
CBS , NBC , ABC , CNN , NYTimes , et al
taking turns at HerThighness' palm fronds are:
NPR , MSNBC , Village Voice , NOW et al [unions]
but the CrazyLeft rabble must be "hushed",...ah therein lies the trick!!!!
It is Hillary's fervent hope that she and the liberals can keep the plantation concept alive and well. When she suggested that they knew what she meant, actually, no one in that audience did, it was the mere mention of the "P" word that sent shivers down their spine.
Yes, she is certainly OFFENSIVE.......
