Home Owner Shoots Would Be Robbers Eyewitness News

(01/16/06 - ORANGE COUNTY) - Two Orange County women are recovering from bullet wounds after surviving a violent home invasion.

It began early Monday morning on Lipscomb Grove Church Road when two suspects kicked in the front door of a home, and shot the two women watching TV inside. Marjorie Whitted, 50, and her 27-year-old daughter, Vicky both suffered bullet wounds to their legs.

Carlton Whitted, 62, was in the bedroom when the men broke in. "They be saying I been shot I been shot." P> The suspects tried to push their way into Carlton's bedroom but Carlton had other plans. "I seen my rifle sitting in the corner I reached and grabbed it and I turned the door loose." Whitted says he shot both men in the back as they tried to escape. "I was going to shoot them in the head that's when the bullets gave out to clicking. I went in there and reloaded and I don't know which way they went."

The shooters got away. Investigators used K9 units to track them.

The suspects turned up at Duke University Medical Center for their bulled wounds.

Whitted is just grateful his wife and daughter weren't seriously hurt. "I don't know what they were wanting."

Re your #15 - Police Officers usually don't shoot your Wife and Daughter while they're passively sitting there watching TV - not considered very professional.

Then again, there was the BATFE tactical squad who capped Randy Weaver's Wife while she held their baby.

About the only ray of hope one might have these days is that Janet ElRenio is no longer the Atty General.

Randy Weaver's wife was killed by an FBI sniper during the siege at Ruby Ridge. It happened on Bush I's watch. The Federal Marshalls started that mess by shooting the Weaver's dog, and then shooting his son in the back. When I got my Texas CHL, we were taught that Texas Law allows deadly force to be used if a law enforcement officer is using greater than necessary deadly force on someone. I think the Branch Davidians were legally justified in shooting back at the ATF in Waco.

Here's a much better report of the story.

That is a much better report. It makes clear that while the homeowner did shoot the intruders in the back, it was while they were on their way toward his son's room - not while they were leaving.

People don't realize that poor grammergrammar can be deadly...

Poor spelling is not wonderful, either.

No, I was talking about my grammer. She didn't have two nickles to rub together, but she would always bake us kids cookies and she kept a loaded shotgun by the front door.

She didn't brook no funny business from the local punks - my poor grammer could be deadly.

OK, that's terrific, but the colloquial talk -- is that a little bash on TX? I know people who talk pretty Texan, but some of the dialouge doesn't even sound real.

It wouldn't be real for Texas, in most cases, but in parts of the Carolinas, it's fairly common, and goes way, way back in time as well.

Randy Weaver's wife was killed by an FBI sniper during the siege at Ruby Ridge. It happened on Bush I's watch. The Federal Marshalls started that mess by shooting the Weaver's dog, and then shooting his son in the back.

Actually it started when the BATF (No "E" in those days) tried to get Weaver to spy on a "white supremest" "militia" group. Then they entrapped him by getting an informant (provocateur would be a better word) to convince Weaver to sell him a short barrelled shotgun. Then they gave him the wrong court date. His not showing up in court is got the Marshals involved. The BATF also lied to the Marshals about how "dangerous" Weaver was, leading to the militarized response of the Marshals, rather than a stroll up and knock on the door type response. So even though the BATF wasn't involved in any shooting at Ruby Ridge, they were the source of the incident and ultimately responsible. Of course no one was punished at FBI or BATF for that incident. Lon Horiuchi, who killed Mrs. Weaver, is still walking around free somewhere, and reportedly was also present during the siege and fire portion of the Waco affair. Meanwhile the names of various FBI and BATF "players" in both incidents turn up every once in a while, most always in a higher position than they were during those infamous incidents.

Under Texas law, they most certainly were. But they were shooting at Federal Officers, even if the dregs of that group. That's never allowed for mere citizens.

Mr. Whitted needs to get a more effective caliber gun. Other than that, he did real well. Too bad it wasn't a .223 or .308 rather than a .22 rimfire. Well, maybe next time.

That's exactly what the jury thought as well. Not a single Davidian was convicted of murder.

As I said above, not one single Davidian was convicted of murder for killing those BATF goons. The jury essentially ruled that their killings were justifiable homicides.

Ya gotta love Texas.

Exactamundo. I believe they got Weaver to modify the barrles himself, and they were only like 1/8" shorter than the acceptable 16". The Fed actually gave him a monetary settlement for his "troubles." ($1.2 million, I believe.) He should have been allowed to be the firing squad to execute the murderers of his family members.
