Hil's King Day shocker (Hillary's "plantation" speech given in church)
NY Daily News ^ | 1/17/2006 | MICHAEL McAULIFF , DAVID SALTONSTALL

Posted on 01/17/2006 4:37:44 AM PST by jimbo123

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton dropped a Martin Luther King Day stunner yesterday - comparing GOP rule of the House of Representatives to a "plantation."

Standing alongside the Rev. Al Sharpton, Clinton told a mostly black crowd that "when you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation - and you know what I am talking about."

The startling comment got muted response from those at the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ on W. 116th St., but Republican leaders seized on her remarks as inflammatory and insensitive.

"It is always wrong to play the race card for political gain by using a loaded word like plantation," said Rep. Pete King (R-L.I.). "It is particularly wrong to do so on Martin Luther King Day."

"I am a little shocked that a United States senator would use such unfortunate stereotyping to characterize an entire political party," added Rep. Vito Fossella (R-S.I.). "In this case, I think she owes an apology."

Clinton's plantation remark was part of a fiery partisan speech in which she predicted that the Bush White House "will go down in history as one of the worst" and chided GOP leaders for squelching debate.

She asserted that the House "has been run in away so that nobody with a contrary point of view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument."

Aides to Clinton later defended her "plantation" remark, noting that House GOP leaders have often barred Democrats from even offering amendments to bills.

Although several Democrats did not return calls seeking comment, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-Queens) said "the only card anybody was playing with today was the joker, because as she rightly stated, that's who's in charge of the people's House and that's who's stifling the progress of the last century, progress that led to civil rights."

As for Sharpton, he jokingly suggested that Clinton, who many believe is eying a run for President in 2008, had stolen his material.

"Any time you have a situation where, because of seniority and cloakroom politics, the bosses make the decision - that's tantamount to plantation," Sharpton told reporters.

"I absolutely defend her saying it because I said it all through the '04 elections," added Sharpton, referring to his failed presidential run that year.

Clinton made the plantation remark in response to a question about why national Democrats in general seem so "spineless" on major issues - a problem she blamed on the GOP's hold on the White House and both branches of Congress since 2000.

"So here's what I am suggesting," said Clinton in a not-so-veiled plug for her future. "If you don't like the way things are going now, the Democrats have to be given a chance to get into power."

That is the key phrase.

Whatever gaffe's she makes will be covered over, muted.

Can't wait until she starts campaigning. Everytime she lets her guard down she shows who she really is, a shrill liberal incapable of leading her Party, nevermind the country.

Whose party voted as a bloc against the '64 Civil Rights Act?

Neither. Both parties were divided.

After all she is married to "the first black president".

According to Mayor Noggin, it is now correct to say she is married to the first "chocolate" president.

Remember how close that buffoon Kerry came to being elected and sworn in? Hillary Clinton is no buffoon. Kerry was an empty-suited joke, but he almost won. Hillary Clinton has been working for a White House run since at least 1992. She has the political machine, the fawning media, and control over much of the party fund-raising. She is no joke. Take her seriously as the biggest political threat the GOP has ever faced, or watch her being sworn in in 08 through your tears. She's serious about it. You better be.

Senator Clinton's statements were low risk to her politically. She probably could have called Tom DeLay the grand poobah of the Ku Klux Klan and Karl Rove a follower of David Duke before that audience and not be called on it by the MSM. She may be criticized by conservative talk radio and Web sites like this one, but it would not matter since their audience would never vote for her.

Yeah, really. Some guy on the Texas board last night was quoting Dickie Morris (he of the toe-slurping predilection) as saying that Bush's political people are telling him now that Hitlery cannot, repeat cannot, be stopped in 2008, her election is a foregone conclusion. Real strong language that.......been searching online for another quote of Morris to check it out. Morris says Midwestern blue-collar women are going to hand the election to Hitlery.

Too bad Condi ruled herself out. Now we'll have to draft her, but she's still not ready. She needs 6-8 years as governor of a major state (i.e. California, her home), before she's ready to run for the White House. Nobody has ever elected a staff guy to the boss's job, not when the boss's job is President of the United States.

Its ok to talk politics from a church if you are talking left wing politics. There is no seperation of church and state when that happens. As evidenced by the muted and gagged ACLU over the past 60 years as the NAACP has turned black churches into political hotbeds.

Tell me about it... Kansas City transformed "The Reverend" Emmanual Cleaver from being an incredibly corrupt mayor, in an incredibly corrupt city, to the House of Representatives. I can't begin to count the number of political speeches he gave in churches in the KC area!

People forget that Hillary Rodham's shrill hectoring of Senator Edward Brooke,R. Mass., an invited guest at Wellesley's commencement, was her springboard to national notoriety. Senator Brooke is a distinguished, principled man, and he is also black. Had Rodham been a Republican and Senator Brooke a black Democrat we would still be hearing about Hillary's fishwife invective.

The more I see of Hillary (there's a scary thought), the less I'm afraid of her. I hope the Left puts her up in 2008. She has nowhere near the political skills as Bubba. He never would have made such a stupid remark.

Hillary has a certain yuck factor. People are not going to want to have this shrill beast in their living room for 4 years. As Rush says, everytime she speaks she reminds me of an ex-wife.

Because the Bible refers to him as "he", which is not to say that she couldn't be influenced by the Spirit of Antichrist...even Jesus said of his time that many false Christ's have already gone into the world.
