It's Hillary presidency, Bush told
Insight ^ | 17 January 2006

President Bush's advisers are resigned to the Democratic capture of the White House in 2008, according to senior Republican sources close to the White House.

GOP sources said White House strategists have attempted to persuade Mr. Bush that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat and her party’s current front-runner to be the next presidential nominee, cannot be defeated in 2008. Bush strategists said the president should instead focus on seeking to retain the Republican majority in both houses of Congress in 2006 and 2008.

"There is nobody in the White House that will openly say we lost the presidency in 2008," a senior GOP source said. "But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."

The strategists have argued that given the forecasts of a downturn in the economy, crises with China and Iran, Mrs. Clinton would be besieged with major problems that would ensure a one-term presidency, the sources said.

The strategists have pointed out that Mr. Bush, given the failing health of Vice President Dick Cheney, does not have a natural successor. Recently, Mr. Cheney, who suffers from heart problems, was rushed to the hospital because he had difficulties in breathing.

The sources said the strategists have assessed that Mrs. Clinton would easily win the Democratic leadership and the subsequent race for president. They said Mr. Bush has pledged to campaign vigorously for any GOP presidential nominee.

Administration sources said Mr. Bush has discussed the prospect of a Clinton presidency. But they asserted that the president has focused on the 2006 elections for Congress and the need to maintain the GOP majority.

"If we lost our majority in Congress, then the president immediately becomes a lame duck," an administration source said. "So, the talk of 2008 is not only premature, it's harmful."

"I would personally hope that a pro-abortion, anti-Israel Condi Rice never gets closer to the WH than she already is."

Ive been saying this for years since at least 2002. the Republicans are too spineless and cowardly to effectively run a campaign against her specifically because she has a vagina. the second someone screams repubs are sexist when they half heartedly try to stand up to her they well soak the front of their pants yellow and run away crying behind their wives skirts faster then a frenchmen. Sources? We've got sources!

Listen to HELLary's screechery today in Harlem about "plantations",class warefare and such other racial politics divide and conquer strategies. They never work, and they certainly won't work for her.

"The other problem is that Bush has not groomed a successor for 2008. No one in the Party, so far as I can see, has the guts, intelligence, and communication ability to square off against Senator Clinton."

I think Tancredo could give her a run for her money. He has the guts to speak out against illegal immigration, despite the threats against him and the public villification.

"She will do absolutely whatever it takes to win."

Without a doubt. That is why the Republican candidate will have to have nerves of steel and very skilled bodyguards. Not to mention a vigorous campaign team to successfully counter any smearing done by Hillary.

"Bush has more or less abdicated on any meaningful domestic agenda for the last five months."

I've noticed. Sadly he seems to spend time vacationing or simply spending money. He's become incredibly apathetic, like he's fallen apart.

Close but...

1-Cheney resigns for health reasons [in early 2007; right after the GOP 'barely' holds both houses in 2006]
2-Bush puts up Condi for Veep [YEP!]
3-Bush finds legitimate (looking) way to bow out after 2yr point in term [NOPE - ain't necessary, and it ain't gonna happen!]
4-Condi enters 2008 race as the sitting president. [a sitting VP, with Allen as her VP running mate]

You mean weren't a lot of cheers? I hope, anyway.

There was an article the other day that she was losing support in NY. I can't remember if it was because they were more anti-war than she is or if it was just because they were finally figuring out she will say anything to be elected and has no core values.

See you tomorrow.

I can see the huge guffhaw out of George's mouth when he was told this....fact?

This is nothing but premature ejaculation by the left...... She's gong to ride to victory on the shoulders of who.... Jonh Kerry, The Breck girl, Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi... Screaming Sheehan, John Murtha, Joe Bidet. All of whom can't stand her.

Oh...thats right: on Bill's shoulders - because they are such a lovely couple they deserve the White House again.

Come on folks.....have another glass of wine and lets not rush the process.

Are you calling Hillary a superstar???

You are kidding, aren't you?? If Condi Rice decides to run against Hillary, it wouldn't even be close!! Condi is the REAL superstar.

Can you prove she has a vagina? I'm not so sure.

What about Brownback/Coburn?

Coburn isn't in the mix is he? Brownback doesn't have a chance as far as I can see. What has to be understood is the enormous grassroots effort that is largely responsible for Bush's reelection. I don't think that's portable, or in other words, that it will just be there for the next candidate.

Of all the names thrown around, Rudy seems to have the best chance to stir that kind of grassroots action. As we saw in the aftermath of September 11, he has an ability to connect and lead. But Rudy can only do that on a small number of conservative issues. (Bush did it with WOT, abortion, judicial nominees, etc.)

It's a political lifetime until we get to that stage anyway but it's my guess that the issues of the day will better define the best candidate for the time.
