"THE worlds most technologically advanced exploration ship sails today on a mission that may reveal the origin of life on Earth.
The Japanese ship Chikyu intends to drill seven kilometres (4.3 miles) below the sea bed more than three times deeper than has been done before. It will then raise to the surface a cylinder 1.5m (5ft) long and 15cm wide which could contain sciences first glimpse of a living sample of the Earths mantle."
----------
"The theory behind the life sciences side of the research is that life may have originated beneath the Earths crust at temperatures and pressures unknown on land or sea. The energy that provoked the first semblance of life may also have been geothermal rather than solar."
----------
"The mission of discovery is not restricted to biology. Physical samples of the mantle are also expected to deliver a rich trove of seismological, volcanic, geological, environmental and climatological information. The reason the Japanese project offers the prospect of such important scientific discoveries is not depth alone."
"It could be bilious acid dregs from the caustic pools of Hell.."Do you mean that literally or figuratively?
Been there, done that.
Either.
Whatever they pull up will be considered by the IDers as "Hell-juice". It's just too complex to be explained any other way.
I can accept your analysis of the "six day creation" and not doubt your faith.
However the thing that irks me are the literalists who demand everyone accept their explanations, as if THEY were the ones who created this universe.
Usually I dont even get worked up over the issue, and I'm not even sure why I did in this thread.
Anyway, carry on.
Oh, "If I knew Him I'd be Him", for sure. Though I believe too that He expects us to explore, the lack of which desire would make us less Human and hence less in the "image" of God.
Mostly geologic strata.Primarily of interest to Ph.D's.Not very glamorous but may provide insight into the age and structure of Earth.
THX, I was going to start looking for that, interesting (long forgotten) Subject...Project Moho./undersea oil/gas deposits.
Cute picture!! but very interesting research! Whatever is at the center of the earth is all theoretical right now, isn't it?
YEC INTREP
What? No Axel, Hans, Arne Saknussemm, or the Sea of Liedenbrock?
Bummer!
I think the answer is that the ordering isn't important, particularly since the order in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 contradict each other. The Ancient Hebrews weren't idiots. They could spot a contradiction when they saw it. The only explanation is that they simply weren't concerned with such petty details, which are there either as symbols or maybe just filler to keep the story interesting. The point was that God is the ultimate creator of all things.
There was "light" before the sun and moon were created. Read it carefully again and you see how it's worded.
And .. if there was "light" then the sun and moon were only created for our benefit - because God is light and life.
I didn't say I already know anything such thing. It's just for me .. it's a settle issue. If other are curious - it's okay by me.
I believe God did create the universe - and I don't have to know how He did it in order to believe He did.
The New York Times is often wrong on many topics, but they're correct on this one.
"I believe God did create the universe - and I don't have to know how He did it in order to believe He did."
Good for you. Other people want to know how it was done.
Certainly there is light apart from that made by our sun. (The moon is actually a reflection, I'm sure you know.)
The point is that the plants and vegetation on planet earth needs light (energy) from our particular sun in order to be viable, does it not?
Of course God could make anything grow and survive with or without the sun.
But if He changes the laws of physics all the time at every whim, then it is useless talking about any historical or geological events because it could always be said that God simply changed the Physics of the Universe on that particular day, and thus all measurements we would take today would be distorted and useless.
Okay - Bible lesson.
In verse 3 of Genesis 1 - it says, "Then God said, 'let there be light', and there was light." [This light is the very essence of God - His zoe (meaning substance).]
However, in verse 14 of Genesis 1 - it says, "Then God said, 'let there be lights in the sky to separate day from night.'"
The LIGHT IN VERSE 3 - IS GOD - God produces the light.
The Bible is quite clear - there are 2 sets of lights - one is God - and the other is the sun and moon.
