The Bias Arizona Republic
Years ago the Arizona Republic was a conservative newspaper -- oh how it has changed.
One of it's most slanted feature is the letters to the Editors page. Not a day goes by without letters bashing Bush, bashing capitalism, bashing corporations or bashing the US Of A. The paper's defense might be that those are the only letter they receive. Wrong. I and several of my conservatives friends complain that letters refuting liberal lies are never printed.
Here are some examples of letters that make my point: one that suggests the recent face transplant would be appropriate for the two faced Bush administration (how clever) - another writer whines that the student loan program budget is being cut by Republicans, (my letter pointing out that federal programs are never cut only the rate of increase is cut never saw the light of day) - yet another lefty letter writer anguished over "corporate greed." Last I checked most jobs are created by corporation -- and millions of workers hold stock in corporations.
The latest hate letter opines:
Dump the whole bunch of 'emThis letter may not be published in the AZ Republic - ah, but there is always the Internet - and it damn well will be published online. *Although the letter writer might have something here.Time for a bright new future for our country.
Dump Bush
Dump Cheney
Dump Frist
Dump McCain*
Dump DeLay
Dump Hastert
Dump all the business as usual bunch (snip)
If what they publish displeases you, don't buy their paper.
They haven't been a conservative paper since 1980. They led the ambush and slaughter of our last two conservative governors. I call them "People's Republic."
I agree with one of the seven, go ahead, dump McCain.
BTTT
Which is why I live in Mesa and subscribe to the Tribune. Of course, anyone can subscribe to the online edition. It often truly is unbiased. _Conservatives say the Tribune is too liberal and liberals say it's too conservative.
What do you expect from a newspaper owned and run by the same people that publish USA Today.
welcome to most of America.
fortunately the MSM and newspapers along with it are loosing readership and laying off people.
I get Sunday newspapers for Sports, Cars, TV and Jobs....
I throw the rest out unread. I do not get the weekly papers. When in the Supermarket the other day a guy was trying to sell subscriptions with all sorts of freebees...I told him I hate that liberal rag. He, in a wispered voice, agreed with me.
You are absolutely right, my friend. The "Arizona Repulsive" used to be conservative but over the last 10 or 15 years has morphed into a rag as liberal as a rancid breeze blowing from the Left Coast. Fortunately, its power to make political endorsements seems to have faded over the years.
I just got off the phone to the Tribune, cancelling them. The editorial page has gone to heck.
If they have a agenda that's not what they claim -- i.e. giving fair hearing to all opinions -- then do what it takes to expose it.
Those days are gone, but what's to lament? The newspaper biz is in decline. As it gets more liberal and biased and corrupt, that merely speeds its trip to the grave. Help them along. Don't buy their papers. Don't buy from their paid advertisers.
Exposing a newspaper in this country for liberal bias is like exposing a snowflake for being white or exposing coal for being black.
Hateful posts like this are the reason that the American left won't teach the American public to read!
(/sarcasm)
Wouldn't it be much more effective to tell the advertisers why you are not trading with them any longer? If enough did this, I think the newspaper revenue would see a rapid drop.
If enough people cancel subscriptions it's just as effective. Newspaper advertising rates are set by the number of paid readers as verified by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). When advertisers realize their message isn't getting to a wide enough audience they tend to look for better ways to seek customers. Recent attempts by certain papers to inflate their circulation numbers are an indication of desperation.
Certainly letting advertisers know your feelings is important. But subscription cancellations really sting these days. I became fed up with the endless bias of our local paper recently and sent a note saying I wanted to cancel. Instead they kept leaving the unwanted paper in my driveway. Angry, I called and spoke with a really obnoxious woman who refused to acknowledge my demand. Instead she demanded to know why I'd want to cancel their wonderful newspaper. I gave her an earfull. Only when I told her I'd never make a another payment and if they didn't like it we could hack it out in small claims court, she finally sighed and said "Ok." That's how desperate they are to maintain paid circulation figures.
Sometimes it helps, sometimes it gets their backs up. What they can't ignore is declining profitability of their advertising dollars. As a bonus, the moonbats can't blame the losses on the "Religious Right."
The newspaper biz is in decline, yes, but that diagnosis has been received wisdom for at least 20 years that I know of. Broadway used to be called "the fabulous invalid" too, and I remember that phrase from THIRTY years ago.
Broadway and its inherent stodginess and traditional trappings (you had to come to IT, only a thousand people at a time could be exposed to a Broadway play, etc., electronic media like television could reach ten thousand times the audience for less money, etc. ) is still true, and still obtains, but Broadway, (AND Hollywood, I might add,) somehow keeps pulling through. It is the slow development of Free Speech forums, like this one, and personal , issue-oriented blogs on the Net, and of course Talk Radio that has been putting dents in and undermining the hegemony of the MSM, and will continue to do so. Newspapers would like to THINK that they influence or "sway" public opinion, but they would have to prove it to me first. And if the AZ Republic has become a Lib paper,, (it wasn''t when I lived in Scottsdale from '82-'85, it only seems to underscore the idea that the paper is a "bastion" that is answerable only to itself, and does not seem obliged to serve the political tendencies of a state that is still more Center-Right, than Center-Left, especially when it still has the sense to elect good men like J D Hayworth.
Actually, I love newspapers since I used to be a reporter. But they've been taken over by the leftists and nothing, not even financial losses, seems to be truly getting through to the decision-makers. It's like the classic definition of insanity: when you keep doing the same thing yet expect different results!
