Angus Reid Global Scan) Many adults in the Evergreen State reject changing the definition of marriage, according to a poll by SurveyUSA. 62 per cent of respondents in Washington believe marriage is a union between one man and one woman, while 34 per cent think it is a union between two adults, regardless of gender.
During the January 2004 State of the Union address, United States president George W. Bush said, "Activist judges (...) have begun redefining marriage by court order, without regard for the will of the people and their elected representatives."
In 2004, marriage certificates were issued to same-sex couples by local governments in the states of California, Oregon, New Mexico and New York. In May 2004, the state of Massachusetts allowed gay and lesbian partners to apply for marriage licenses, the first state-sanctioned homosexual weddings in the U.S.
Civil unionscurrently available in the states of Vermont and Connecticutgive same-sex partners the same legal rights of married couples such as inheritance, insurance and hospital visiting privileges. A California law grants domestic partners the same legal rights of married couples, with the exception of filing joint income tax returns.
Over the past two years, 19 American states have enacted amendments to define marriage as the union between a man and a woman. Four more will hold votes on the matter this year.
The Supreme Court of Washington is expected to rule on the constitutionality of a same-sex marriage ban. In August 2004, King County Superior Court judge William Downing said that the states Constitution guarantees basic rights to homosexual persons, which would be violated is they are forbidden from marrying.

ping....
In the TV ads for the movie I have seen, the ads show the cowboys touching horses, guns and women and not each other.
Maybe those heterosexual couples were expecting something else.
62% of Washington voters reject gay marriage. No problem for the Far Left. The Extreme Leftists in Seattle will find enough votes to support gay marriage like they did for the current Governor.
That is the same feeling I got having seeing the ads. Don't they show one of the guys getting married with some kids. My husband says that you would never guess its a movie about homosexual sex.
Yes. They keep hollering "Romantic" with handsome 'cowboys' frolicking with their wives or playing with their kids.
Nothing about what the movie is really about.
Can a referendum be placed on the November ballot?
later pingout. I should be getting to pinging tomorrow. This is dragging on way too long.
Even Washington. Oregon last year went 58% for real marriage.
There are going to be fireworks in the Washington State Supreme Court in late Feb to early March. Gregoire will not be the governor of Washington at the end of the year. CJ Alexander won't be on the supreme court bench, either.
"Many in Washington Oppose Same-Sex Marriage" ... and somehow this is supossed to mean what, that the democrats in their legislature WON'T ram it down the peoples throats?
Please, this is Washington the land of crooked rats.
Two thoughts come to mind here. First, I've been lucky enough not to have seen any ads for the movie at all. Second, they're using these traditionally male symbols to "normalize" homosexuality. Anything for the "cause".
Far from being encouraged about the poll results, I find the 34% in favor of defining marriage between any two people very troubling. It is a symptom of a depraved society, even in a state like WA. I've recently read that even Pres. Bush is in favor of some sort of domestic partnership arrangements, although he opposes same-sex marriage. By any other name, it is marriage and an official endorsement by the state of the slide into full-blown recognition of this counterfeit marriage.
Enough hand wringing. Now somebody cheer me up.

Evergreen State ping
FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
HUH? WHY?
Not a surprise. Like in most other so-called Blue States, it gets redder and redder the further you move away from the coast. Problem is, there are enough people in those big coastal cities to render the others' votes moot in statewide and national elections.
connectthedots, are you getting closer to bringing them all down? It has been quite awhile I know that you have been working on your case.
