Kuwaiti emir dies - state TV report
Posted at 5:04pm on 15 Jan 2006
Kuwait's emir, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has died, state television reported on Sunday.
The announcement was made in a statement from the royal court carried by the television.
Sheikh Jaber is the third son of the late Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who served as Kuwait's Emir from 1921 to 1950.
He was appointed Prime Minister of Kuwait in 1965 and subsequently named Crown Prince in 1966. He succeeded his cousin, Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah in December 1977.

They come in threes, Shelley Elvis' mother, then the Emir, now who? Rock Hudson, Gerry (of the Pacemakers), or who, Paul Anka, perhaps for putting out that awful heavy metal album?
