THERE IS ONE good thing about anti-Semitism: It lets you know who the bad guys are. Right, left, black, white, freak or straight, the minute someone starts rattling on about the evil Jews, you know your train just pulled into Slimeball Station.
All bigotry is wrong, of course, but there's something about this particular form of prejudice that's weirdly reliable as a sign of deeper wickedness. Perhaps it's because the Jews contributed so much to humanity's moral code that to hate them as a race is to despise the restraints of morality itself
Whatever the reason, true, virulent anti-Semitism is such a good indicator of the presence of evil that I'm tempted to believe that when God made the Jews his chosen people, this is what he chose them for: to be a sort of Villainy Early Detection System for everyone else.
Unfortunately, in his infinite love for his creation, I suspect the Big Guy may have overestimated our intelligence. Maybe he thought that after Hitler we'd just, you know, like, get it. Instead, we still see apparently intelligent people appeasing, making excuses for and even embracing the sorts of stinkers who ought to set off the Big Alarm.
That's why I think the system could use more bells and whistles a loud honking noise perhaps, or closed captioning for the morally impaired. Thus, when Iranian President Ahmadinejad says the Holocaust is a "myth" or Israel "must be wiped off the map," you would hear a loud honk and words would appear in the air below his face: "Hello. I am an evil madman. Please stop negotiating with me now and proceed to cripple my nuclear capability by any means necessary."

It was ugly. In addition, regional presbytery officials started interferring with services, intimidating congregants after submarining the 2 ministers.
Stalinist in some ways...
You can search PCUSA or Presbyterian keywords here on FR or check out "Hollywood Presbyterian Church" in the "Archive" link at http://www.layman.org/
I didn't read about that in any of the links. But yeah, prayers to Allah and reading from the Koran would certainly explain it! And I'd be even more interested in what happened to nearly $1 million.
This thread has an interesting idea.
Either way, I'm proud to be pro-Jewish and pro-Israel. :)
Me too!
My father's younger sister was shot and killed accidently and he was a freak about guns. You had to totally disassemble them before bringing them into the house.
The heck with cutting the Pastor some slack, cut and run instead! The Honk Honk alert should work inside Church too.
If the Pastor does not understand the Jews, how much of the Bible does he understand, vs how much denominational training? You have to ask yourself, does your pastor lead the way to heaven, or does God and the Bible.
Because, if he can see the "suffering" of the Palestinians, but not see the suffering of the Jews, your Pastor is leading you to a different place than God is.
Not my pastor. Not even my brand of church.
Good thing she didn't get mauled by a dog or worse yet, electrocuted by an electric coffee pot.
Not sure what "IIRC" means (?), but yes, that is a quote from Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof.
Tell your minister to read the Bible. I am having to reread one of the Books, because stupid me I didn't right down the scripture. BUT, The Jews are the only group (ethnic?) that GOD states WILL be in his Kingdom. Period. Maybe that is why so many get their rocks off at killing Jews. Spitting in the face of God kind of stuff.
Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. And when the chief priests and Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them. [Matthew 21:43-45]
Those those who believe in Christ and the New Testament, cannot deny that the so-called covenant has been taken away from the Jews.
Please reread the first sentence of the Scripture you reference;
"For finding fault with them, behold, the days come, saith the Lord when I will make a new covenant with (who?) the House of Israel and the House of Judah...."
Also, verse 10 in that same chapter says "For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people."
The Apostle Paul is talking to the Jews in this and earlier chapters explaining to them that there was no longer the need for sinful men to be priests/intercessors for the people before God, because Jesus had now become the their high perfect priest, the one and only true intercessor between man and God the Father. This Scripture has nothing to do about God taking away His covenant with the nation of Israel being His chosen people.
Some would agree with you, some wouldn't. It's their free choice. I only can't understand why some Christians, who think that Jews are some better kind of people don't just convert to Judaism.
The real problem is people may know their religion but they do not know their bible.
If one know your bible then you would know that there are two chosen groups of people and at times both are called the saints of God, the chosen, the elect.
They are the Jew, and the Church.
They each have their separate role, covenants, blessings, trials etc. in God's plan of the redemption of man.
If people would study His Word and rightly divide it [between Israel and the Church] as we are instructed to[ 2Tim 2:15] there would be no need for this petty envy, or fear, or competition between these two groups.
There is enough of His love, mercy, forgiveness and blessings to go around.
Israel's promises of a kingdom are earthly and tied to the land and his kingdom for them will be set up on earth in Israel where He will rein for a thousand years.
The Church's [or Christians ] kingdom is not of this world but is a Heavenly one and eternal [John 14:2].
The Church [The Bride] will reside in the New Jerusalem in Heaven [Rev 21:2while the redeemed remnant of Israel [Jews] will rein in Jerusalem on earth for a thousand years.
At the end of the thousand year they will both end up in their ultimate destiny when the New Jerusalem come down out of heaven and they and the Church both reside there to rein and rule with Christ over the New Heavens and the New Earth though out eternity.
Read Revelation 21 for the ultimate destination of the Church and Israel and notice in verse 10 that the names of the twelve tribes Israel are written on the gates and in verse 12 that the names of the 12 Apostles are written on the foundation representing the home of both Israel and the Church.
Where the bible and God is concerned it seems to me that He sees basically three distinct groups of people on the earth excluding Satan and his minions. The groups are the Jew, the Church, and the rest of mankind sometimes called the nations, Gentiles, earth dwellers, etc.
Sheesh, didn't these guys have to read the Scriptures in seminary?!
Maybe they were partying, who knows. but I will find that scripture again and I'm going to post it when I do. I'm sick of all this Jew -hating Bs. (I'm Catholic) All it is is spitting in GOD's face, as I said before.
Me three!
Actually in view of a reasonable and intelligent reading of the Holy Word, there was never any other choice for me. As the Jews stand, so stand the Christians - and emphatically vice versa!
