GOP Gubernatorial hopeful Bill Weld came under a blistering attack last night from ex-Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, who argued the former Massachusetts governor has "a lot of explaining to do" about a simmering scandal at a Kentucky school.
D'Amato went after Weld in an interview on the cable news station New York 1, saying, "he wouldn't be my choice at all" in New York's Republican gubernatorial primary this year.
D'Amato conceded that part of his dislike for Weld stemmed from the prosecution of his brother Armand by the federal Justice Department, for which Weld had been a top official before getting elected governor of Massachusetts.
Armand D'Amato, a lobbyist, later succeeded in getting his conviction tossed out on appeal.
As if D'Amato had cause to question anyone else's ethics.
Bill Weld is a weirdo, and he is certainly not much of a Republican.
Al "Big Ethics" D'Amato.
I'm starting to think the GOP pool in NY is very shallow. I've lived here my entire life, sans my army years. I've seen more give away elections that I care to recall. The GOP better get it's act together and soon.
Red Hook blast from the past [Battle of Brooklyn cannonball found]
FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
Has his kid gone to the clink yet?
When the Fonz speaks his rival's stature swells.
Pothole calling the kettle black!
The GOP is in New York?? Could've fooled me.
I lived there most of my life, up until I went into the army also, and feel the same way as you.
Come to think of it, the only Pubbies that I can even recall ever amounting to anything at all in NY are Rudy, Peter King, and....well, that's about it.
I can only add Reynolds to the like. I watched him tear into one of Hillary's minions for telling a fib. It was a short lived moment though.
Louise Slaughter should be easy to knock off. She is an absolution moron. The NY GOP hasn't fought in that race since the early 90's. It's like they have given up.

"Ah shore agree about Peter King being one of the only useful pubbies in NY. Without him stabbing his own party in the back and kissing mah ass, ah might have been held accountable for my crimes! Go Freepers Go! I hope Mah boy Peter King gets PLENTY of face time on TV and REWARDED by the Republicans for his treason. He's MAH favorite Republican! And ah'm shore glad that bastard D'Amato is out too. If he had a third term, I wouldn't have been able to gloat about the pubbies 'not even getting a majority to vote to convict'. Yall done good, ya hear!"
Come to think of it, the only Republicans I can even recall ever amounting to anything at all in NY are Rudy, D'Amato, Vito Fossella, Tom Renyolds, Randy Kuhl, and....well, that's about it.
Weld is a disgrace. He has several problems, including with the bottle. Helms blocked him from becoming Bill Clinton's ambassador to Mexico.
Beleive me, we want Weld no where near the Republican power. He is one aggressively sick puppy. He hates Republicans and loves being the party wrecker. He's mean and hateful.
His inaugural speeches are impossible to understand because of his love affair with John Barleycorn. That's if he doesn't fall down at the lectern.
*BUMP* And thumbs-up to everyone in the thread who sees Slick Willie Weld for the NON-Republican that he is.
Thank God.
Welds response, instead of debating the actual reason, was to play "bait and switch", and then slander Jesse Helms, by lying.
Helms did not have a personal problem with Welds and recommended him for India (what India did do deserve insult, I do not know), but not mexico do to policy reasons.
Welds lied and said it was because he was a moderate and supported gay rights (which was NOT the reason).
Welds drinking is well known, whats not well known, is that he prefers his staffers to be drunks too.
To quote.
"We don't want no tee tollers in this administration, ha ha ha". (real quote, scary).
